We had been planning this for over two months now: to make sure that a neighbor in our neighborhood got the Christmas wish she desperately wanted: to see some Christmas lights.

It was such a simple request, but one that meant volumes for Lena.  Lena at forty two was more like a child: she is mentally disabled, with the mindset of a three-to-five- year-old child.

Lena may have been a grown woman, but she still believes in Santa Claus.  She still believes in the magic of Christmas.

By Thanksgiving, the first of the lights and Christmas decorations started appearing.  Now, with Christmas just a day away, quite a few of the houses in our neighborhood (and in town) are decked out in holiday glory.  I know (as do most of our neighbors) that Lena will enjoy the lights. 

Her caregivers plan on taking Lena to see the lights tonight.  I know she will be beside herself in joy.

The look on her face will be one to remember.  I can't wait to see her tonight when she sees the decorations and the lights!  It will definitely be a Christmas to remember, not only for Lena, but for all of us who wanted to make her dream of seeing Christmas lights come true !
