A child who enjoys storms writes about why he enjoys the aspect of severe weather and the excitement it brings.
Boy, do I love severe weather!
I don't know why I love severe weather, but I do. I love the excitement it brings: the tornadoes, the hail, the heavy rain, the intense lightning, the deafening thunder, the sheer drama of what can happen during severe weather. I have always been interested in weather, but I especially love learning about severe weather.
Take tornadoes. Those things can happen so fast, and disappear just as rapidly; and they can do hardly any damage, or else they can just wreck entire neighborhoods. There is nothing more exciting to me than to see the funnel snaking down to the ground and hearing the roar of the wind as the storm thunders across the landscape. To me, that is EXCITING (but as long as we aren't TOO close to the storm; that can prove to be very dangerous!). I have seen several tornadoes before, and although I feel sorry for those people who lost loved ones or property, I do enjoy them so much. I always like to see what they may do because they are oftentimes so unpredictable; and the sky can turn the neatest colors during a storm!
Or take lightning. Lightning can be beautiful to look at, especially if it spreads across the sky; and the thunderclap that often follows the flashing can really deafen you and shake the ground! I have seen some really spectacular lightning flashes, and as long as I am not exposed to it (I can get struck; it is not wise to be out when it is lightning outside), I can really enjoy Nature's fireworks! :)
I also like hail (except when it injures people; hail injured my sister, Ronee', this week, and now she has a nice bump on her head, and she just got out of the hospital because she got dinged on the head with a particularly large hailstone; it was a little bit bigger than a golf ball); hail can really get to some incredible sizes! I have seen hail ranging from little bitty pieces to hail as big as grapefruit; and believe you me, you DON'T want to be outside when you see hail THAT big; for one thing, it could kill you! NOT a good thing to get smacked on the head with grapefruit-sized hail! :( It can also damage crops and even houses or trees if it gets big enough; hail can be very dangerous. This is why, whenever you hear severe weather warnings, the weather people always tell you to get into a sturdy place of shelter when a particularly bad storm is coming; or you can very well end up being DEAD or badly hurt!
Not me either Karla. this was an excelleaant write, but I am overhear complaining about too much rain, give me blue skys and a gentle breeze and I am happy. Keep up the great writing Karen!
