This little story is set around a theme of grief and loss
It was the middle of the day and he just had a swim in his pool felt very tired so he went to lie down in the hammock under the shade .
He woke up in a trance not knowing who he was or where he was or even what was going on . He slowly got out of the hammock and on his feet then he wandered around aimlessly .around the pool . Then he saw them , many shadows were all around him but he was the only one present there . Everywhere he went the shadows followed him and he screamed out ‘
“Leave me alone . What is it that you want ?”
They responded ,
“We want your shadow “
“Well take it then and go away , let me be “
They surrounded him and set his shadow free.. Then the shadow people were gone.
Later that day he went into town to have a drink in a bar where he knew most of the people who drank there.
He spoke to a few friends as he went over to the bar but they ignored him . He ordered a drink but the barman just looked straight through him .
Shadowy figures came into the bar and everyone in the bar had a chat with them . One of the shadows approached him and said
“No one can see or hear you because now it’s you that’s become a shadow .“
He began to shout and scream
but no one took any notice of him
Standing right in front of everyone in the bar he had disappeared from sight ,
No one cared care that he was standing there, he couldn’t accept wh this had occurred . Nobody understood the invisible man and yet he was still the samew person . Deep down his heart broke in two because they used to be his friends , they used to listen to him ., He cared for them in their needs and now he was a shadow person . He could still feel nut the hurt wasn’t healing in a hurry . He was there but somewhere else , he was a shadow of who he was , an invisible man stranded in the world as if he was on a deserted island far out at sea or on another planet where no one had ever been . He knew everyone around him but no one saw him .
He walked around the bra but there was no shadow . So he went outside and there was still no shadow and that’s when he remembered that they had taken away his shadow . No matter where he went he was out of sight , like a ghost in the night .
He went back home and made some lunch , Watched a movie on TV , Then he rang a friend but no one answered . He took his mobile phone and sent some text messages to his friends but no one responded .
That evening he took a train trip into the city and walked around unseen . On the busy sidewalks he screamed out
“Why is this happening to me ?”
The shadow people cam and surrounded him /
“You are in a shadow world not and your shadow is living in the world that you see . Nothing has changed apart from you and your shadow changing places .
“How long will I be in the shadow world ?”
He asked .and the shadow people said .

“Until we decide you can return . The reason why you are here is because the sun in your heart has gone way . Once you were happy , before the one you loved died . Now that she is gone you are still alive but there is a darkness inside you that is growing , You have cried all your tears , you have tried to forget but the sun in your heart has set on you and there’s nothing we can do unless you turn things around , the light of life within you has gone dim . Now its time to change or very soon all that will be left is a shadow without hope and healing . We need you to see another view of life . This is something that you have you had to learn . Now its time for you to change so that the sun in your heart can return . We have waited and watched for so long , now it’s time for you be strong , so that life and love will go on “
He replied .
“Its true what you say. I’ve locked myself away ever since the love of my life died . In one sense I also died with her . I promise to try and be strong from now on . Give me another chance , let me look for romance . Let me live again ?”
The sun shone down around that place and his shadow returned “
He saw the face of a beautiful girm approaching along the side walk and he spoke to her ‘
“Excuse me . I’m a tourist here in this city . Could you recommend any good restaurants around here “
The lovely lady smiled and spoke to him .
“I know this great place just a few blocks away . The food is delicious and it not expensive . “
He was so happy that she could see him and hear him . Next he asked her ,
“I don’t know anyone here in this city , would you do me a favour and join me for some food and a drink ?
“That’s the best offer I’ve had all week . Ok I’d love too “
She said .
That night the sadness had left him and he felt a new light glowing inside him .
As the weeks passed he fell had found a new love in his life and everything had turned around for the better . It was like a miracle had happened to him .
All of his sadness and sorrow now that was inside him had become a shadow of how he used to be .
A fanciful story that will never happen, but nonetheless charming. The primary use of shadow as the dark side of life and the sun as the heart of life… Actually only there because of the sun, is a nice use of a portal into another world. In this case, the Shadow World.
