Our government runs the VA hospitals, that is the first thing you want to have your mind. Ever been to a Veteran's hospital and just watched the people that visit there? Of course not, well it is a frightening sight, a loving sight, and something that would make your heart glow and also make you mad as he--! In most instances our vets get real good care and then down the line not so good.
Our government known for their expenditures in certain places haven't checked some of the VA facilities lately or even probably been around one. The surgeons are made to use equipment that is mostly outdated or in bad need of replacement. The pay is not real good, but, the government benefits are what attracts some doctors and nurses. The hospital is filled with private citizens who are just there for the check and retirement benefits. Fact, at one facility, a certain man slips away from his job everyday for about an and a half to take a nap in one of the clinics.The clerical help is very bad and lackadaisical, simply because they are afraid to lose their job, as all the jobs are very easy and the government buys them $500.00 chairs that are nice and comfortable to sit in all day.
One VA facility hired a doctor whose license had been suspended in another state and now he is responsible for 6 deaths within 2 years. Two other doctors at same facility were suspended for malpractice also. In total 9 deaths were attributed to these 3 doctors in 2 years time. How did they get their license in Illinois and how did they get hired by our government? You see , you can sue for damages as was done in this case. You are suing the federal government under the Tort Act and if they lose ,the money comes from the treasury department, not the VA. I'm sure everyone read about Walter Reed a few months back and the deplorable condition it was in. There are several more hospitals around the nation that are in great need of repair and a general cleaning up.
Our veterans deserve better treatment, better doctor and nurses, and a lot of new equipment. Students are taught at many of these facilities and some are used when they shouldn't be. Removal of a tumor in the parotid gland is a very delicate operation because the nerves control your facial functions on each perspective side of your face. Anyone that doesn't do at least 20 to 30 of these a year has no business doing one. However, it happened a student who admitted to having done only 7 was allowed to operate in a special case and now the patient is going through added operations, stress, eye sight problems and the director of the hospital told the patient to rest easy, he would be taken care of and to be patient.
Our VA Hospitals are in a sad state of disorganization and mis-management in several states. A director at a VA Hospital is normally paid $168,000.00 a year, plus all his or her perks they receive. Trouble is, they are hardly ever around if you need them, they have a liaison person there to handle duties they should be doing themselves. Don't get me wrong, vets receive good care, cut rate medication, and in most cases good after treatment, but, there are thousands of cases that need more attention in several areas. The over scheduling they do, rude receptionists, lazy people in high tech medical departments sure don't help the VA image any. Our government needs to pay more attention to certain facilities and they need to it real quick, instead of sitting in Washington and dealing with the auto makers and baseball players.
