The things kids do

Once, while I was on the phone, my son, Doug, curious about everything, climbed up on the kitchen counter and took something out before climbing down.
Holding his sister, about 9 months, while my 2 year, 6 month old son played in the kitchen, I hadn't SEEN him do that.
However, a few minutes later I covered my mouth, gagging. "Oh, my, God. Oh, my, God."
I put the phone down on the washing machine and ran into the kitchen where I found Doug gasping but still pressing the button on a container of pepper spray! I grabbed it from his hands, all three of us gasping, opened the garage door (it was winter and there was snow on the ground), and put both kids in the car.
I ran back in, leaving the garage door open so the kids could see me and not think I'd abandoned them, apologized but hung up the phone, grabbed my car keys out of my purse, ran into the garage, threw open the garage door and started the car.
Then I ran back in for our coats, hats, mittens, etc.
Both the babies were crying so we all sat in the backseat huddling while I thought about 'what to do'.
I went back in the house, once they were calm, and opened ALL the windows and doors. It was the only way "I" knew to get the smell out!
I grabbed blankets and snacks on the way back to the car and we had a picnic in the backseat of the car that lasted for hours!

Whenever I went in and could breathe, I closed the doors and windows but had to wait for the house to warm up.

We'd just gone back in whenever Dan came home and wanted to know why the house was so cold. I told him and asked him NEVER to buy anymore pepper spray!
