This is a little something I decided to write about my five year old starting Kindergarten. I hope you enjoy.
My little five year old boy, Tre, is going to be starting Kindergarten at the end of August. He is so excited and he rarely stops talking about it. I am so proud of him, yet I am petrified at the same time.
In his curious, sparkling blue eyes, school means going to play and color with lots of other kids his age. For me, it's his first day with a 'stranger' watching and trying to control him and twenty other rambunctious five and six year old kids. It's his first time getting on and riding a bus. It's his first time coloring a picture, writing his alphabet and 1,2,3's for a teacher to grade. It's his first time learning that he has to focus and pay attention to the teacher, rather than talking and playing all the time. It's his first time making brand new friends with kids he's not related to or been raised around.
He's completely oblivious to the fact that for me, this is just yet one more step towards independence. One more reminder that he's not gonna need me or rely on me for nearly as much anymore. I want him to succeed. Better yet, I want him to want to succeed.
I know that come time for him to take that huge first step getting onto the school bus, I'm going to be sobbing uncontrolably. Part of it from being so proud, part of it for being scared, and the other part will be from knowing that I am going to miss him so much for those few hours.
The main thing I pray for though, is that he doesn't get himself into too much trouble. My little man has a mouth and he is not afraid to use it. I can just see me getting called to the school for something he did or said. I hope I'm not jinxing him for feeling that way. However, for those of you who know Tre, know exactly where this fear of mine stems from. He is so smart. I know he's ready. The question is...Am I?
I have prayed for both you and Tre to the Holy Spirit... that Tre hits the ground running in kindergarten, and that you alternatively are given the full confidence and assurance by Spirit, that everything is going to be alright :)
I have been there with my own three sons, and believe me they adapt better than us parents...:)
And it makes them so much more ready for school proper and the big outside world..
I remember when I started kindergarten; I was scared to DEATH!! O, you brought back memories with this one; God bless you, and may God bless your little guy as he starts on his new adventure; you both will be in my prayers! :) Delightful write! :)
