A friend mentioned that since I had a restaurant and bar, I should write some of my experiences. So I started with A bar scene, vignette, since it was well received,
~*~
I was freshening up in the ladies room before the dinner crowd started coming in, conversing with Anita, a regular customer. She was one of the mobs broads. I won't get specific. She was saying" Ya know Tess I've been thinking about what you said of why turning the water on when you can't take a pee helps. I mean I always knew it helped, but never heard about a reason until you said it. Now every time I pee I think of it." I chuckled and said
"That's the whole point getting you to think." With a withering look in the mirror she mimicked Bogie and said, "watch out i'm carrying heat and I ain't afraid to use it."I laughed, but I knew she did carry a 22 in her little evening purse.
"Well Anita, the concept is simple, since we are all made in the same image, and we are all composed of similar matter , and since the energy that flows through the air like the radio waves effects everything, it becomes evident that it's true the energy in the flow of water, prompts the energy within us to make our water flow when we need it to."
"That's enough Tess I need a drink after that one, wait till I tell the Deacon, He'll probably pee his pants laughing without the need for water running to help him! We left the ladies room Anita to her table, and me to check the bar and see if all was going well for the cocktail hour. We had a very nice crowd and
Ray was doing his usual piano magic keeping everyone in a good mood. I went through the dining room to see if all was ready, on into the kitchen, just in time to hear Gus(the chef) say "If you say that one more time you'll be eating your balls for supper."I quickly told Stan the waiter, to please go into the dining room and thankfully he listened.
I said very calmly to Gus, I wish you would stop browbeating Stan. You know he's a fantastic waiter, and I hate to think our customers would hear that kind of talk." To my surprise he said "okay Tess for you I'll be nice, but tell him to stop being a jerk-off!" It was hopeless! Chef's are in a class by themselves and hard to come by! They know they can make or break your business. The evening had begun as usual... To be continued
What fascinating characters you bring to life! They live and breathe through your depictive words, and so does the scenery. One feels your characters; Roger is right: This needs to be in a book! More, more, more!
My Mama packed a .32 automatic but we rarely went to ritzy places like yours. Keep these coming. I enjoy them. But save some for the book you should write.
ooooh this is good! Now I have to go find the first one and read it. Funny how the scenes that pass through our lives become vivid again when we place them on the page. I really did get caught up in this read, excellent job. You should put all of these together when you are done and place them in the short stories section where they will be read by those who don't stop in at the poetry corner. Take care, Sherry
This is great Eileen! I think it's an excellent start for a storyline. Oh is there more before? I must read it lol I just read the other reviews and it seems I may be missing in action. I do look forward to more.
Well, apparently "pee" does stand for poetry:-) Sorry, couldn't resist that at all. Loved this poetic vignette. Maybe one day I'll tell you what a woman novelist friend of mine said about "peeing next to famous people" at literary conventions.
... Goodness me, Eileen... what tales you must have to tell! And I can just imagine this, too. I would think you have both the gift of hospitality and the instinctive nurturing abilities to mediate and manage staff. And, being perceptive and intuitive, would be able to harmonise and "pick up" on all the subliminal dynamics, as well. PLEASE bring us more of this tantalising prose; I love narratives that also interweave the psychological stratas as well. You build a wonderful introductory picture here, and I so hope you will serialise these. They are a rich mine of both human interest, and a jolly good yarn! The stuff that gets talked about in bars! Have you read Alice Munro. Just LOVE her - she can build a cameo in a line or a single paragraph AND give you all the emotional levels of understanding, too. Quite, quite brilliant. TY Kate xx
Very interesting. I am now getting a view of what an American bar and restaurant can look like with its customers and waitresses thanks Queen and please continue posting this story. Abdi-Noor with peace and love
I agree, this is great!!! You got me hooked and look forward to reading more. I remember waitressing a long long time ago ... it's hard work. I enjoyed the customers when they weren't trying to pick me up ... ;) Can't wait for the next one ... (((honihoni)))
