During the process of completing the 1st draft of My Days In The Beast I took several days off to visit friends on Cape Cod.  During the visit my daughter called to inform me the FBI had visited her, were in process of interviewing neighbors and would like to speak with me in person as soon as possible.

I called the number left with our daughter and spoke with one of the agents to scheduled a meeting.  Both agents were attached to Homeland Security, one was FBI and the other was with the New Jersey Transit Police.  Most of their questions related to the main character (Aamir Al-Mamoura) and whether or not he was real (he isn't) or possibly based on someone I knew.  Also, keen interest was shown on the various documents depicted in the diary and how I came to create them.  Copies of all research documents, drafts, photos and websites were requested and given as well as the names and addresses of those to whom I spoke.  A primary concern was that I had received information or direction from someone inside the government which I did not.  

As this contact was made prior to my copyright application I was quite impressed and asked how they managed to learn of a document still in the research / draft stage.  Of course they wouldn't answer. 

Some people might think of this as an infringement of my rights as a citizen but I think of it as a great example of people doing their job.  If only more folks would do their jobs half as well we might get the proper food we ordered cooked as requested, our newspaper might land within walking distance of the front door and our political office holders might learn how to balance a checkbook while living within a budget.
