Megan's twin sister, Michelle, writes a story about herself and her life.
Hi! This is Michelle B. Sandusky writing! (The B in my name stands for Breanna. Michelle Breanna Marie Sandusky is my whole name. Before I was adopted, I was named Pu Li Xiao, which was my Chinese name. My sister's Chinese name was Mai Lee Xien. But I like our American names better. So do a lot of people!)
I am 9 1/2 years old, and I am Megan's twin sister. We were adopted last year from China, and we will both be ten years old in May. We were adopted along with another little boy, Sergei, now six, from Russia, and also another little boy, Kwame', from Africa, who is now four years old. There was also a third little boy, Benjamin, who is also four now, but he came from Canada. There were five of us adopted by the family we have now, and now we are all brothers and sisters (although Megan and I were ALREADY sisters before we got TO the Sanduskys; we are twins!).
We were both born in China, near Shanghai, and we are, of course, Chinese. (D'OH!) We both look just alike, Megan and I, but we sometimes wear our hair in different ways so we don't look so much alike; or we may wear completely different outfits. Sometimes it is fun looking like one another, but sometimes it can be a royal pain, especially when people mix us up. I don't like that very much!
I am glad to say that Megan and I are both healthy, but I DID have tonsillitis last year and ended up in the hospital for a week. That was not fun, but I did get to eat a lot of ice cream after I got my tonsils taken out in surgery; and that was cool, but I didn't like the nurses sticking me all the time with needles or going to the surgery. That was scary! I am glad that is all behind me now; and I hope my tonsils NEVER come back!
Megan and I may look alike (or think alike a lot of the time), but we are different in some ways. I like cats and dogs, and she likes horses. I like to paint and draw, and she likes to read and write. She is a very good writer, and I am so-so. (I am doing this on the computer, and I am using the "Spellcheck" feature; I am not so hot at spelling, so I have to cheat! LOL) We are both in Mrs. Williams class at Eastview Elementary School here in Nashville, Tennessee (we live there, in Nashville, Tennsesee, not at the school! LOL), and we are both in fourth grade. School is okay, but I would much rather play!
I have a cat. Her name is "Pouncer", and she is a grey short-haired tabby cat. She has yellow eyes, and she is very sweet and purrs a lot when she is with me. I don't have any other pets of my own, but there are a lot of animals at our house. We have cats, dogs, birds, hamsters, gerbils, a snake (ICK! I HATE snakies!), and horses. We have a very big backyard, and we (and the animals) have lots of room to run around and play and get our (or their) exercise.
When I grow up, I would like to be a writer of children's books. I would like to write a book about my family or a book kind of like the ones about pioneer families ("Little House In The Prairie", that kind). My favorite shows on tv are "Little House On The Prairie" (I like the little girl who plays Laura Ingals; her name is Melissa Gilbert, and she is very cute!), "Touched By An Angel" (I like the big black lady on there, I can't remember her name, but she seems like a very sweet lady, and she has a very nice singing voice!), and "Sue Thomas, Private Eye" (she is deaf, but she solves crimes, and she is very good at what she does; it's a good show). I also like "Star Search". My sister, Ronee', who is now 11, was on "Star Search" last year, and I saw her on television. That was very exciting seeing Ronee' on television, but I am sorry to say she didn't win, drat it! She should have won; she was WAY better than some of the acts they had on there!! Another show I like to watch is "Hour of Power" with Reverend Robert Shooler; he preaches good, and he always has the nicest and most interesting people on there! (I watch that one before we go out to eat and then to church on Sundays. We get up really early on Sundays, and this is when I watch "Hour of Power".)
My family is very nice to me and my twin sister. I am glad I have the Sanduskys for my family because they are good with kids, and I have a lot of brothers and sisters to love, not just my twin sister! A lot of the kids in my family are handicapped, but Megan and me, we are okay, no problems with us (except for my awful spelling, that is! LOL). The ONLY problem we may have is our English; English is still hard at times for us, and there are times when I get bored with talking in English, so Megan and I will talk to one another in Chinese. Sometimes I wish we could do that all the time; Chinese is a lot easier for me than is speaking in English! But since my family doesn't know a lot of Chinese, we had to learn English, so we could be able to talk to them!)
I hope you enjoyed reading about me, Michelle Breanna Marie Sandusky, aged 9 1/2. I like to write, as you can see, and I think I happen to write pretty good for only being in America for about one year now! I will write better as my English skills improve, but I think I do okay now. Now my next goal is to get my American citizenship so I can be an honest-to-goodness American girl and be able to say the Pledge of Allegience!
I will write more again soon. Thanks for letting me write my story!

Karen, I enjoyed reading "Here Is My World. Welcome To It!" Guess you've had a little experience at being a twin, right? I've had quite a few identical boy and girl twins in my classes, while I taught. This story really brought back memories.

A wonderful story :-) In public school I knew two identical twin boys. They were a lot a like and often like to switch classe's to see how long they could get away with it LOL. Although they did look alike some part of their personalities were a dead give away to who you were talking to. Thanks for the sharing.
