I was working for a convenience store several years ago as a manager. It was the first job I could find after moving up North to live with my then fiancee, now husband, Mike.
I usually went to work early in the morning, around 5 am. On this occasion, it was a Saturday morning and I was only going in for a few hours to do some paperwork. Mike drove me to work, dropped me off and went off to do his thing until the time to come back and get me, two hours later.
He drove up to a nearby hill called White's Hill. There was a 50 foot Tower there that Lamont Burnham, a weathly merchant, had built on top of this hill in the 1880's. He would station a sentinel in the tower so they could see coal barges rounding Halibut Point. The sentinel would set off a signal and Burnham would ride a fast horse to Newburyport to put a price on the cargo.
The Massachusetts Indians had lived in this area previously to this. No, we don't know if this area was used as a burial site or not. No grave sites have ever been discovered there that we know of. The Massachusetts Indians no longer exist in this area. I am not sure if they even exist any longer as a tribe.
The Tower had been used as a tourist attraction in the area in the early 1900's - they used to charge people to climb up it and veiw the area, but this is no longer done as the Tower is no longer is in existance. The only thing left of the tower is the base.
Mike was there around 5:30 am on a moonless morning an hour before dawn. He took a few pictures of the tower base with his digital camera, using the flash, and took several other photos of the area before coming back to get me around 7 am.
When we got home that night, he downloaded the digital images from his digital camera onto his computer and was very surprised to see this image on the picture. There were two pictures taken within seconds of each other. The first had this image along with the tower base and the next had nothing but the tower base on it.
We have discussed the reasons why this image would show up when Mike didn't see anything out of the ordinary when he took the pictures. There was no moon, no sun, no car lights (the hill is accessible only by walking up a steep incline for about 300 hundred yards and the area around it is a golf course (no club house - that is down the street about a mile). There is no way that car lights could have shone there, nor would they have taken that pattern if they did.
It is a puzzle. We could only conclude that he woke up a spirit who was trying to shoo him away.
