One of my biggest dreams is shared by many people, especially since the show first came onto the air.
No, I am not talking about "Star Search" (I have already been there, and even though I did not win, I still had a ball!); I am referring to the show, "American Idol", which after three seasons, is still hugely popular. I would love to try out for the show; but there is one small problem: I am not old enough to be on the show. In order to be on "American Idol", a contestant has to be 16 or older, on up to the age of 24.
I am only 11. I still have at least five more years to go before I can try that. Still, I do love the show, and I love the talented singers that have been on there and won, in particularly, Kelly Clarkson, who was the first champion on the show. She is from Texas, and she has such a powerful, beautiful voice; and to boot, she is one of the nicest people I have ever met. (I met her when I saw the "American Idol" show here in Tennessee, and she was not only sweet, but she was also very pretty!) I also liked last year's champion, Ruben Studdard, who reminded me a bit of my mom's friend, Franklin Jefferson! LOL
This year's competition was won by Fantasia Barrino, a pretty African-American woman from North Carolina. She had an incredible voice, and she stayed strong throughout the entire competition. I also liked the challenger, Diana DeGarmo, who was from Georgia. I loved her voice, too, but she kind of messed up on her final song last night (she got a tad "pitchy"), and I think that may have blown her the chance to win the contest. Still, she was very gracious about her loss, and she still gave it her all. For a kid of only 16, she had a very strong voice, but I think the pressure finally caught up to her on the last song of the competition last night. (I also liked Diana because it turns out that she loves cheetahs! LOL) I watched the show last night, and even though I personally was cheering for Diana DeGarmo, I was glad Fantasia won because she deserved it. She was hard to beat, and she had managed to stay quite tough throughout the entire competition.
I would love to be on the show myself, but to tell you the honest to God truth, I don't know if I could face the "wrath of Simon" (Simon Cowell, one of the judges; he is quite ruthless at times, and he is very honest and open in his opinions of the singers on the show. He is very critical, and I have learned that he is NOT a fan of kid acts. ONE reason why I am glad I haven't tried out! LOL) I also don't know if I could sing some of the stuff they have on there; they sing EVERYTHING, be it rock, country, jazz, even Latino or big-band music. They also have to have "the right stuff" or that "special something" that makes them stand out, and I personally don't think I have it. For one thing, I am a country singer mostly, and even though I CAN do other musical styles, chances are, if I was on the show, I would probably choke, and they would have to kick me out of the competition! I would see Simon, be it in the tryouts, or in the show if I made it to Hollywood, and that would be all she wrote. It would most definitely be "bye-bye Ronee'!"
So there you have it. My dream. IF the show is still on the air in five years, look for a little Cajun/country music singer with dark skin, black hair, and black eyes, to be on it. Chances are, if I make it past the auditions, it'll be ME. LOL (With luck and a whole lot of prayers!!)
