The Return of the Crusader

Into this dark and sombre landscape , the returning Crusader emerges , alone with his tired and dejected white steed , they survey the Altered Landscapes all around them with rising terror and dread .
Stumbling over broken and jagged branches of ivy and bracken , the exhausted and depressed Warrior , moves inexorably onwards , he knows no other Way , homewards following the Northern Star by Night , and the Crimson Sun by Day .
His torn heart is mangled and wracked , by the memory of his fallen comrades and knights , in the valiant final Third Crusade against the Enemies of Christ .
Anguished and disturbing dreams , haunt his beaten visage , the agony of the Broken Lance and the Trampled Red Cross Standard within Jerusalem's Holy Walls .
Alas , Alas , Alas , cries the wicked Tormenter in his soul , " This Darkened Altered Landscape is all I have left for Thee ".
Comfort and Solace ne'r to be found forever here .
Still the wounded Crusader forges onward still , surrounded by medieval
dread , the stench and stink of rotting corpses , taken by the Plague .
Oh God he cries in vain , within his shattered heart , why has thou forsaken me ?, and broken every dream .
No answer can be heard or given from above , only the sound of the cuckoo
breaking through the gloom .
At a secret hollow , the Warrior tends his horse .
Drinking fresh crystal water from the sparkling stream , and gorging on the
the wild berry , until he sates his soul .
The fresh rain of Mercy comes tumbling from above , easing his crest fallen brow .
And within the sacred repository of his Holy Heart , a silent voice utters "
No ! It has not been in Vain "
" For I have deemed that things turn out this way "
The Night Sky falls with a vengeance and encapsculates All
A painted picture appears , a silhouette of a Knight and Horse .
Vanishing into the ether of futuristic Time
Leaving behind the Cryptic Measage " For Me , Nothing is in Vain ".

loved it. Your very good at painting imagery to the mind and heck, I didn't want to be the character in the story but I think we all are those characters in everyday life.
Peter, this is wonderful, I'm glad I found the time to stop by and read this one. I love the first paragraph, but what caught my attention even more was the poetic prose from the fourth paragraph down, like an epic poem. I loved it. Elizabeth

Pretty good stuff, and very colorful language...however, there are a few problems with punctuation that break up the writing andm ake it hard to read....
Kept my attention from beginning to end. A sign of a good write :-)

Peter, this was a gripping write, which engulfed me into it from beginning to end! Absolutely full of dynamite action and filled with stunning visuals, which help create the polished creation you’ve posted here for our pleasure! I enjoyed the read. Wow I am in awe..although days later it's like we are on the same page...the imagery very similar to my poem today...it's amazing how we think alike...I am really speechless!!
