Louisiana Sandusky, in America, emails her Finnish friend, Sari Gustaffssenn, who is currently in Athens, Greece, where she is attending the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.

Dear Sari:
You don't know how much of a pleasant surprise it was to hear of your being in Athens, Greece, for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games! That is too cool; I hope you are having a ball!
Thank you for letting us know where you are at; I was starting to wonder about you! I wondered why I haven't heard from you, and now I know...while I have been working (and am now returning home from a "mini-vacation", if you will; we are currently in Arkansas, on our way home to Tennessee from Louisiana), you have been hobnobbing with all the Olympic athletes! Good for you! I hope you are having fun!!
Glad to hear your fibro has been kept to a dull roar, but sorry that you are having a hard time with the heat over there in Athens, Greece! I would love to go to Greece, myself, but have never been out of the United States of America excepting to go to Canada a few times! LOL That's about as close to Greece I will ever get to for a while at least; we just went to Alaska in April, and it about wiped us out financially--and then I couldn't take the entire family; all I could take was Bill, my husband, and only two of our fifty children! I have been watching the Olympics faithfully until we left for Louisiana last Wednesday, and we missed at least two days of it. So you will have to fill me in on what happened during our road trip to Louisiana!
That is too cool that you got to meet the gymnastics' own Carly Patterson and Paul Hamm! And you even got to meet Michael Phelps, the swimming phenom from Baltimore, Maryland! Were they nice? Did you get their autographs? My daughter, Gemini, who is very involved in gymnastics herself, just idolizes Carly, and her sister, Ronee' (she isn't into gymnastics; it is because she is physically disabled), loves her too! And my son, Johnny (he is physically disabled as well), loves Michael Phelps! If you see them again, could you please snag an autograph (or two) for Johnny, Gemini, and Ronee'? I will gladly pay you for them!
What venues have you seen at the Olympics? What was your most memorable experience so far at the Olympics?
I saw that you were wondering about the Finns and how they were faring at the Games. Well, Sari, I am happy to report that the Finns have finally managed to get a medal, a silver; so now they are not without a medal! Go, FINLAND! LOL I don't know who it was exactly who got the silver medal for Finland (those names are THIS long! LOL Too long for my Cajun French tongue! LOL), but I DO know he is from Finland! LOL
I am sure you have been well aware of the controversary swirling around the U.S.'s own Paul Hamm and the judges who erronously gave the gold medal to Paul Hamm instead of the one Korean gymnast. I think that is a darn shame, but I am glad that Paul Hamm is being a gentleman about it. I would have not been so nice if I were in his predicament, and it is a spot where I would NOT like to be! I feel sorry for both Paul and the Koreans; and I feel sorry for the people involved in this scandal. But as you know, as long as the Olympics go on, there is bound to be scandal, which is a darn shame, because it totally goes against the spirit of goodwill and the spirit of the Olympic Games themselves! I do hope that this controversy is resolved soon; it makes both America and Korea (and the judges) look bad! And in the end, someone is going to end up getting hurt, and hurt badly!
Have you had any of the Greek food there? (Probably. Duh, says Louisiana, blushing like a durn fool! LOL) If so, what was your favorite of the Greek dishes? My favorite Greek dish is probably lamb souvlaki! I also love baklava and kalamari! YUMM! (Louie, you'd better quit while you are ahead...you are only succeeding in making yourself hungry again! LOL) Have some souvlaki, kalamari, and baklava for me, okay?? LOL Or better yet, send some in the mail; Federal Express it if you can! LOL KIDDING! LOL) Heard that the Greeks are among the finest cooks in the world; and there is nothing quite like eating it in Greece! (I have a son who is part Greek himself, and he loves the Greek cooking too! We all do, actually! We have had it at a Greek festival we went to here in Nashville, but it still probably isn't as good as it is there IN Greece!)
Well, Sari, I will write to you again. Thank you for emailing me from Athens! That was a pleasant surprise, and I am glad you are well and having fun there! Continue TO enjoy yourself, and have a safe flight back home when you leave to go back home to Finland! I bet you will be glad to get back to the cooler weather after experiencing the fierce Mediterranean heat! God bless you too, and thanks again for writing!

I have some in the freezer, it's some kind of cheese pastry appetizer from what I have found...perhaps I will try it tonight...I think the schol made them because of the olympics
