Louisiana writes her oldest daughter a letter upon learning of her only granddaughter's possible illness; she tries in her own imitable fashion to offer comfort and hope in the midst of fear and uncertainty.

Dear Lightning:
Chere', I wish I could be there for you and Darnell as you both face this battle together! But the truth of the matter is, I can't. We are going to be leaving tomorrow for a wedding; our friend from Alaska, Jenna Aurora Whitson, is getting married in Lafayette, Louisiana, to her fiance', Michael Wayne Doucet, and we have to be there. I do hope you will understand. But we will be praying for you and your family regarding the situation involving your oldest child!
I was so saddened to learn of Jamee's problems involving her balance and her walking! That msut be so scary for you both! But if I know Jamee, she is a very strong, high-spirited little girl, and nothing keeps her down for long! She reminds me of you in so many ways! Baby, If there is anything I can do for you or for Darnell, please do know that I am only a click away on the computer, and I also can get in touch with you regarding my cell phone whenever we aren't home; either way, you will always be in touch with me! I will mention Jamee's situation at church tonight, and we will be more than happy to pray for a Miracle for her! You know that God is in control with whatever happens, and you know that things happen for a reason. Sometimes, we can't understand the nature behind His Reasoning, but God does care, and He knows what is best for Jamee and whatever will happen, He will be there for her, in the midst of her troubles! And He will never leave her! And He will never leave you either! All you have to do is believe, and lay Jamee at the foot of the Cross, and you know that God will handle the rest! Just don't give up hope, Chere'!
I was so happy to hear from you, Lightning! It has been a while, and I am looking forward to seeing you all come Christmas time! Are you still planning on coming home for Christmas? If not, we will pay your way home; we want to see you all, and we want to get to know our twin grandsons better and spoil them rotten! LOL (You know PaPaw and I have that right, thanks to you and Darnell! LOL And I know that Pere-Pere and Mere-Mere will be tickled to meet their twin great grandsons, too!) It is so good to read your writing; your writing has really improved! Keep up the great work, and keep on thinking on ways to help you relax, so to help your muscles!
I have heard from The Weather Channel that Colorado has had a spate of bad weather lately. I hope you haven't had any of the bad stuff there; we have been keeping you in prayer, asking God to keep His Protection on y'all; and we are both glad that y'all aren't in Florida now, not with all the hurricanes they have had lately! Three hurricanes in a month's time, with a possible fourth one (Ivan) on the way! I hope that doesn't happen; Florida has suffered way too much as it is already, and I am sure that they are sick of hearing of yet another hurricane may be on the horizon! Such goings-on; crazy weather parts of the country are having! Not enough rain in some places, too much in others! I pray that the winter and fall are kinder and gentler to the United States; Lord knows we ALL could use a break from all this bad weather!
The weather here in Nashville has been rather wet too this summer; in fact, we had our own share of bad weather back in June. We had damage to the house; but I am glad to say that that is all resolved now, and we had people from Christ Community Assembly of God come through when we needed it; and they helped us get back on our feet. We were staying at a homeless shelter for about a month, but we are back home now, and we hope that no more storms come here! We are stormed out! LOL
The kids are all doing well, but Ronee' broke her arm a month ago, and she is now sporting a purple cast. She fell while going outside to play, and in her fall, she broke her arm (her right wrist), so she has been using her wheelchair because she can't use her crutches. She has two more weeks to go with the cast, and then it should be gone; and she is really looking forward to that! She is also facing the possibility of more surgery next year; she may be getting her one knee replaced (her left one); she has been having pain in that knee, and the artificial joint has to be replaced, since she IS getting taller! She may not have to wear the brace on her left leg after the surgery; but we will see what happens when that time does come. And she may be able to finally bend her knee, after years of not being able to; wouldn't that be wonderful!
Johnny is holding his own: no worse, yet no better; but as long as his muscular dystrophy stays on an even keel, we don't have to worry so much. But we always worry because one never knows when it will manifest itself again, or how. Johnny already has problems now with getting dressed or having his hair or teeth brushed; and he is also starting to have problems with his heart and breathing: the disease is starting to affect his chest and heart, and we are scared for him; but he seems to carry a good attitude about him, and he is more determined than ever to try to beat this disease and prove the doctors wrong..AGAIN. He is such a good and loving little guy, and he has such a great outlook on life; one can't help but be charmed whenever they are around him! He hasn't had any more serious seizures in several months, and for that we are grateful! (It's no wonder Mama's hair is grey: between his seizures and his MD, and also the needs of the other kids, I never know WHAT will happen or WHEN!)
Oh, ye' yaie, such as life when one has kids! LOL And I am sure you are finding that out for yourself! Now you know what I go through each and every day!
Well, Baby Girl, I hate to close this now, but I have to finish the laundry; that way, we can have some clean clothes for Louisiana and the wedding! We will write either Saturday or Sunday, if you find out anything about Jamee. Or you can email us or call; either way, we will get in touch with you--or vice-versa. We will let you know how the wedding goes; and we will be back home sometime next week. Until later this week, you guys take care, and know if you need anything, don't hesitate for one minute to get in touch with us! We love and miss y'all so much, and we want y'all to know that y'all are in our thoughts and prayers!
