Dear World Trade Centers~
Today, September 11, 2004, marks a very sad anniversary for our nation. Three years ago today you were taken from us in a brutal act of hatred and evil, and because of bad men, you no longer stand tall in New York City, and many people died, not only there, but in Washington D.C. when terrorists also hit the Pentagon in Washington D.C. People also died in that field in Pennsylvania when a heroic man named Todd Beamer purposely brought the plane down and saved countless lives, even though the people on that plane died.
My heart breaks at the memory of that unforgettable day, and I still find myself asking, three years later: "Why?" I have been fortunate to have visited you and your twin brother, and I shall never forget you as long as I shall live. Now thanks to evil and hate, I will never get the chance to ever see you again, and because of evil and hate, the face of New York City has been permanently changed forever. I now can't look at the skyline of New York City without being reminded, and I can't help but to cry because I no longer see you there; and New York City looks so--empty.
I was but a little kid of eight, nearly nine, when the attacks happened; and three years later, I still find myself crying when I see the images of you being displayed on the tv screen and then seeing the attacks. I had no idea of how bad it really was until I saw the planes ramming into your brother, and then you, and then saw you smoking and burning; and at once, my heart was stabbed. It felt like someone put a great big knife right in the middle of my heart, and twisted it. I cried buckets of tears for you; and I still cry for you today. As I write this down today, my eyes are wet, and it is hard to see what I am typing, but I am determined to remember and never forget. I am also writing as a way of helping me cope because I lost friends there in the twin towers, and I am grieving for them and their families. I am also grieving for the others who died, and I am grieving for our nation. Today is a very sad day in American history, and I don't think I shall ever forget what happened three years ago!
I pray that God is watching out over you, and I pray that He is watching out over the victims who died along with you. I pray that our nation never forgets what happened, and I pray for our nation each and every day. I pray for our President, and I pray for our troops in Iraq and elsewhere who are fighting to preserve our freedom and to protect us from harm. I also pray for those terrorists and pray that God change their hearts and minds; because I am a firm believer in that. He can change hearts; after all, He did change mine! I also pray for our cities and towns, and I pray for our transportation systems and pray that God keeps our nation safe. But most of all, I pray for you and those who died; and I pray that we never forget! If we do forget, then we are only asking for trouble, and I don't think I could handle another attack! Once was more than enough, and I never want to see such horror ever again!
God bless you, Twin Towers, and thank you for allowing me to share my grief with you. I shall never forget, and I will always remember! God bless those who died, and may God bring them comfort, hope, and healing in the face of terrible memories and tragedy! And most of all, God bless America again!
Love, your grieving friend in Tennessee, Ronee' Le-Anne Reaux (aged 11 1/2). :( >tears<
