Feeling sorry for Johnny since he doesn't get that much in the way of mail, his mother's friends in Alaska, Jenna and Michael Doucet, write him a letter. They have written to his sister, Ronee', before, several times, but never to Johnny.
Wednesday, the 2oth of October, 2004, 1:04 p.m., Alaska Time~
Dear Johnny~
Hello there! This is your friends in Alaska, the Doucets, Jenna and Michael! We hope this finds you feeling (reasonably) healthy and happy!
We have noticed that we have written to your sister, Ronee', several times, but we never wrote to YOU. So we are writing to you now, to let you know that we are thinking of you today and miss you very much. How ARE things with you, Johnny? We hope (and pray) that things for you are going as well as can be expected!
We have heard from your mama and from Ronee' that you had a recent bout of seizures; we hope that they have ended, and that your medication is helping to control them. We also have heard that things are getting harder for you to do and that you are spending more time on your oxygen. We were so sorry to hear that! We hope that you feel stronger soon; that has got to be so frustrating! You know we aren't much into praying, but in your case, we make it a priority because we don't want anything bad to happen to you! You mean too much to us, and we don't know what we would do if something bad were to happen to you! We don't think we could handle it! You have already been through more than enough already as it is!
We are happy that you are doing so well in school. Good for you, Johnny! Just continue to do your assignments and do your studying, and you should do just fine! I hope this year finds you with a whole classroom's worth of friends; everyone deserves to have friends; and you are certainly no exception!
Did you enjoy yourself at the fair? We hope you did, but we heard that you (and your poor stomach) had a rough time with watching the rides. I am so sorry; we hope that your mama gave you something for your stomach! Did you see any of the music shows there? Loretta Lynn? Toby Keith? Tanya Tucker? Alan Jackson? Hank, Jr.? We hope you got to see the shows and hang out with the stars; it sure seems that Ronee' has done her share, especially since she opened up for LORETTA, the little worm...LOL I bet she was in country music HEAVEN when she got to sing with Loretta! Heard she was spectacular; good for her! And heard that Loretta raised the roof of the grandstand and that the crowd was a sellout! Good for her, and good for Ronee'! Am happy for her; but we are happy for you too! You are doing so well in school, and it appears that your health is holding out, too. Double reasons to be happy for you, Johnnycakes!
How did you like your books that we sent you? We hadn't heard what you thought, and we hadn't heard how you liked the shirts or pictures that we sent. We heard from Ronee', but not you. We were starting to get worried; we hope that you weren't sick during that time! Let us know what you thought of them, okay??
I know you aren't much of a letter-writer (nothing like your mama or your sister), and that is okay, but we would love to hear from you ONCE in a while, just to let us know that you are okay and are alive! We don't like to worry like that! We love you too much! And we miss you; we have missed you ever since you guys left to go back home to Tennessee upon completing your cruise! We were so happy that you got to come to Alaska; we had a ball with you and your parents and sister, and if you EVER want to come to Alaska again, we would be more than happy to have you come back again! You are more than welcome to stay with us again!!
Has the weather calmed down lately? Ronee' says that there have been storms there; I pray you made it through them without any significant damage! We have been praying to our gods to protect our Tennessee friends from harm and danger! Here, it is partly cloudy and chilly, typically Alaskan-type weather for this time of year. I am afraid it will only turn colder as we inch towards December and winter; and then, about April, the days start lengthening, and it stays lighter longer; and the days slowly warm up. If you want, we will send you some pictures of when you were here in Alaska. Would you like that? Let us know! Thanks!
Well, Johnny, we will let you go; I have to take my meds now, and besides, I am getting a serious cramp in my hand from typing! Do you know HOW hard it is trying to type one-handed?? NOT easy, Johnny, NOT easy AT all!
