Studio Reader Stan is busy writing a screenplay of his own while sitting in a coffee shop. Marvin, a beret-wearing hipster, joins him.
Marvin: Studio Reader Stan, you have to help me out, bro. We're tight, right? I mean, we were college roomies for four years. That means something.
Studio Reader Stan: I think we’d be a lot tighter if you remembered my actual name was Larry.
Marvin: Here’s my problem. I’m extremely well connected and figured if I wrote a screenplay, I’d have much more success than you’ll ever have, even though you’ve studied the craft of screenwriting for years.
Studio Reader Stan: What part of that exactly is your problem?
Marvin: Because I did write a screenplay. It’s called "Hard Work." It took me four days.
Studio Reader Stan: That long, huh?
Marvin: Bro, it’s the best screenplay ever. But even though I used my connections to easily get it read at a studio, their moronic reader obviously didn’t appreciate genius when he saw it.
Studio Reader Stan: That is a problem.
Marvin: Yes it is. His feedback was that my script was so bad, when it was read out loud to a blind man, he begged to be deaf.
Studio Reader Stan: There’s not much upside to that.
Marvin: It can be overcome, though. All you have to do is re-submit it with a positive recommendation.
Studio Reader Stan: That’s going to be hard to do.
Marvin: Why?
Studio Reader Stan: I was the one who read it. And that blind guy really did beg to be deaf.
Marvin: Hmm, this is very disappointing. Did he have any film credentials to justify that kind of begging?
Studio Reader Stan: He had ears. And apparently a low threshold for torture.
Marvin's pager beeps. He looks at it.
Marvin: Gotta run, bro. I’ve got a meeting at Warner Bros. I'm hoping for a two-picture deal. Let’s do coffee sometime. Ciao.
