More of the continuing misadventures of Studio Reader Stan. This week he's being forced to work on a screenplay with socialite (and purported actress) Rome Marriott.
Studio Reader Stan enters Rome Marriott’s Penthouse Suite at the Beverly Hotel. She’s on the couch, next to some kind of odd-looking animal that’s dressed in a designer pink sweater and little purple shoes.
Rome Marriott: Let’s make this script-fixing quick, Studio Reader Stan. I’ve got four parties to prepare for.
Studio Reader Stan: It’s Larry, actually.
He looks at the odd-looking animal, which appears to be miserable -- probably by the fact that it’s dressed in a designer pink sweater and little purple shoes.
Studio Reader Stan: That’s a very interesting pet you have. And it doesn’t seem to mind at all that it’s being forced to wear shoes.
Rome Marriott: It’s a mongoose. It’s the new ferret. I want it to star in the movie with me. He’ll need his own trailer.
Studio Reader Stan: That’s not an insane request at all.
Rome Marriott: Thank you. Now about my script. I think it’s perfect, but I’d like to add a scene where the main character buys a new bikini. I did that yesterday and it felt like it’d be a great scene for a movie.
Studio Reader Stan: Well, um, about your script. Right now, it has no plot, no characters of any interest, and no useful dialogue.
Rome Marriott: That’s sexy.
Studio Reader Stan: What?
Rome Marriott: That’s my new catch phrase. That’s sexy. I just came up with it. I’d like to use it after almost everything someone says.
Studio Reader Stan: Even if it doesn’t apply to the actual conversation?
Rome Marriott: That’s sexy.
Studio Reader Stan: Oh-kay. Moving on. Is there any point you had in mind when you wrote this script?
Rome Marriott: I wanted something where I could record a song for the soundtrack.
Studio Reader Stan: Can you sing?
Rome Marriott: I was told that wasn’t a requirement. That’s sexy.
Studio Reader Stan wishes this was a nightmare he could wake up from. Even the mongoose looks like he feels sorry for him.
