Dear Betty Jo~
Hullo, hullo! Thanks for your letter; I loved the picture of the fireworks lighting up the night sky! Soon it will be that time, and we shall be watching fireworks and listening to patriotic music ourselves. We are also having a picnic, and we are going to watch the Fourth of July Parade. My daughter Gemini will be marching in the parade as a majorette, and Ronee' is riding on one of the floats. It's for the local Easter Seals Society, and she was one of the ones chosen to ride the float. Johnny will be singing on stage during the evening's festivities, and he will also be doing sign language for those who are hearing-impaired, so they can follow along with the program and know what is going on.
I am glad that things are going well for you, but I am sorry you got fired from Pizza Hut. I have had a few jerky bosses myself, but I just ignore them and do my job to the best of my ability, and hope that someone better comes along (in which they sometimes do). But the current bosses I have now are great, so work is fun at times! But I have the hardest job of all when I am NOT at work: being a wife AND a mother! LOL I do hope you find gainful employment soon; you are in my prayers!
Glad the rainy weather has moved on out of there; you sure have had a lot of "liquid sunshine", haven't you? Pretty soon, Florida will no longer be called the "Sunshine State"..Florida will soon be known as the "Rainy State" if the rains don't quit! LOL I hope and pray you get drier (and sunnier) weather there soon! Here it is sunny and warm, and the kids have been outside and are now turning nut-brown from the sun (or, as in Johnny's case, BRIGHT lobster red!! LOL) from their daily turns in the family pool and playing outside, getting their much-needed exercise!
Of course, I will send you a copy of my newest book, "...And The Miracles Continue" (autographed, of course!)..I will send it to you FREE OF CHARGE, so you don't have to worry about paying for it! Consider it a gift from me! I do hope you will enjoy it!
I will be sending you a picture of Arjun and Rani with this letter, and I will also be sending you a copy of the picture that the people from Holt International sent me of Janica. She will be here by fall, the way things are looking now, and we are still waiting for the "All Clear" from the doctors. I know you will enjoy the pictures!
Betty, I am sorry that your mother's health is worse. It is always so scary when your parents are sick and elderly and are facing a whole myriad of serious health problems. I know how that is because my own daddy is in his later 70's, and he isn't in the best of health. He has degenerative arthritis, prostrate problems, thyroid problems, and high blood pressure, in addition to heart problems, and he has already had heart surgery once. Right now he is doing okay, but he can get sick when one least expects it, and that is scary! I will keep your mother in my prayers! I hope she feels better soon! My step-mother is a lot younger than her husband, and she too has health problems, but she is in (somewhat) better health than my daddy. So I do know how it is to care for elderly parents. Add to the fray, the health needs of my husband (he also has high blood pressure, asthma, degenerative arthritis that requires him to walk with the aid of forearm crutches, AND he is bi-polar) and my kids (not ALL of them are disabled, but the majority of them ARE; and their disabilities range from the very mild, or "hidden" disabilities to the very obvious, to where their disability affects just about every aspect of their every day lives). So you are talking a lot of time for worry here! But I know with God's help, I, my husband, AND the kids WILL make it through whatever we may face! He hasn't let us down yet! :)
I have to go now; it is time for the kids to come inside and get the trash gathered; tomorrow is garbage day, and we don't want to have a lot of garbage hanging about the house, especially during the heat of the day! There's nothing worse to me than garbage sitting out in the sun or heat! GROSS! That is NASTY!! Take care, and have a safe July Fourth holiday!

It brings to mind that not all people are blessed with good health and must deal with health problems on a daily basis. This takes a lot of courage to get through each day.
Karen, I feel like I am being treated to a real slice of American life when I visit these Diaries/letters. I have never been across the Pond, so it is a real privilege to even have a feel of what life is "really" like for some of you on a day-to-day basis - even though I KNOW this is fiction. It gives me some sort of yardstick to imagine what your homes and lifestyles MIGHT be like! I shall most certainly look forward to your 4th July celebration epistles as they will doubtless teach me A LOT!! TY for the insight, the teaching AND the caring story lines.
