Dear Lacey and Maria~
Hi! You don't know me, but I wrote to your mama before your daddy hurt her (and your sister, Susie), and I was so saddened to hear that they are in the hospital. I was informed today that your mama is now off the respirator (it's a machine to help people breathe when they are very sick or badly hurt; it is so their lungs can rest while they get better), and that she is now awake. Such super news! I have been praying to Jesus to make them better, and I have been wondering if you got to Louisa Mason's house safely; now it appears that you have, which is a big relief on my mind.
The last several days I have been worried about your mama upon hearing that your daddy did this to her, and now I find out that Susie was hurt too, and that has me especially concerned. I know there are some mighty bad people in the world, but darlings, not ALL people are mean or are going to hurt you! There are some very nice people in the world...like your mama, for instance..., and there are some nice people who would do anything to try to take the pain and sadness you are feeling right now!
Darlings, I wish your mama and Susie could be with you, but they need to get better; maybe then, they can join you in California. For now, this is the best for them; but I am sure that they miss you very much too. I wish I could have let you stay with my family, but darlings, my family is very big, and there wouldn't be much room for y'all. I have over fifty kids in my own family, and it is a big responsibility to try to take care of them all. They are all very nice kids, and I am sure that maybe one day some of them would like to write to you after I talk to them about what has happened. My son, Johnny, and Ronee' who is my daughter, have been wondering why their mama (me) has been so sad, but today, sometime, I am going to sit down and talk to them. In fact, I am going to talk to ALL my kids about what has happened to your mama and how it has affected me. It won't be easy, but I don't hide anything from my kids, and they are all smart kids who are very well aware of what is going on around them!
I do know Louisa Mason, the lady you are staying with, and I also know Kendra Williams, whom you will meet later. You also met Naomi Cohen, and her daughter, Rebekkah Rachel (I haven't met them yet, but my husband, Bill, and my daughter, Ronee' have when they went to California earlier this year). They are all very nice people, and they are going to help you while you are in California. Maybe while you are there I can call Louisa, and you can talk to me, and that way, you can know what I sound like. Would you like that? Maybe I can also email you again, like I am doing now.
Well, girls, I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you, and that I am praying for your mama and for your sister..and for you girls. I also wanted to let you know that I love you, and I hope that we can meet face to face one day! God bless you, darlings, and know that your mama is getting better, as is Susie!
