The Bonnaroo Chronnicles WHAT I LEARNED FROM BONNAROO
WHAT I LEARNED FROM BONNAROO
(1) Pacing yourself is very important -- wear VERY comfortable shoes, bring a small chair, sit for as much of the shows as you can, stand and dance only for those you must.
(2) If you have an issue with wearing your hair up, getting drenched, and then letting your hair (GASP) air dry, Bonnaroo is NOT for you. Hair Divas need not apply.
(3) Some new reggae dance moves from the crowd at the Toots & Maytals (the original creator of reggae music -- just ask him). Watch out CitiStreet crew, I'll be at Sunny Caribe, dancing to Pili Pili, showing Jennard a move or two.
(4) Some other new dance moves --- And, according to Matt, 'there is something really sexy about a girl hippie-dancing.' Who knew?!?!? Don't worry ladies, I will teach you what I learned (ah ha ha).
(5) You can never have too many toilet seat coves, anti-bacterial wipes, or bandaids!
(6) Ponchos are totally useless -- they are hot and usually not reusable; Parkas are the way to go.
(7) Flip-flops, no matter how comfortable, are a stupid choice of footwear (obviously this was mine). Tennis shoes (or 'runners' as Vera, one of my Toronto friends, called them) or Galoshes (sp?) are a must. You will look kind of goofy, but you will be comfortable, your feet will be clean, and as a result, take in a LOT more music. And that IS the object.
(8) You will not be able to resuse anything -- bring 4 pairs of shoes, 4 sets of PJs, if you plan on wearing them. I, personally, do not wear clothing that I have slept in.
(9) New vocabulary words and/or phrases -- headies, doses, 'shrooms, 'roomers, boomers (I think that was one), hash (knew this one, but didn't realize it meant it was processed), Molly, chocolates, nugs, nuggets, space case, skunk, bud, Maui Wowie (sp?), wake & bake. Yes, this element is there, but you don't have to partake...I didn't. I was there for the music. One thing I will say is that the substances in use were 'happy' ones, and those that did them were very relaxed. I later decided that, given that there were well over 75,000 folks hangin' out in the heat, this was probably a good thing!!! You WANT everyone to be relaxed.
