You would have been 43 today. You never got to enjoy your 20th birthday. We lost you nineteen days before that. But I don't want to dwell on that. Instead I want to remember the really good time we had on several picnics.
Uncle Dennis Howard had been on a Boy Scout trip and they had found kind of a secret place--a hidden waterfall. We had to hike up a pretty rugged, rocky trail in the mountains of Idyllwild. But we didn't mind. You went with your Grandmother, Uncle Dennis Howard, Uncle Neil, me (Auntie Penni), your beautiful mother, Patti, your lovely little sisters, Tammy and Paula. We never had so much fun before. All day long we played in the stream by the hidden waterfall. We had our picnic and just absorbed the beauty of nature Idyllwild had to offer. Such paradise. We hated to leave that day.
There was another time when we all went to Lake Fulmore in Idyllwild. It was such a glorious day. A little cloudy, just the right kind of atmosphere. Granddad was with us then. We had a great picnic and once again soaked in all the environment had to offer. We walked all around the beautiful wide lake.
There was also a time at Featherly Park that was funny. We were walking on the Nature Trail. You and Neil were taking bets that I would fall in the only hole there was on the trail. And sure enough, you both stepped over it, Tammy, Patti, Paula, and Grandmother stepped over it, but not me. I stuck my foot in the hole and fell down. I still have a picture somewhere of you and Neil standing there on that trail. The occasion was Mother's Day.
Yes, when I think back, we had many, many wonderful times together. And it makes me sad somewhat to know that your time on earth was robbed from you. Anyway, happy birthday, once again. We love you dearly, Bobby. We always will.
