Dear Louisiana Sandusky~
Cheerio! This is me, Rosamunde Alcorn, from jolly olde England, writing! I hope you don't mind...
Now I now you must be wondering WHY on Earth I am writing to you. Well, it appears to me that we have a lot in common, more than what you may realise. First of all, I am an adoptive parent, too! My husband, Angus, and myself have adopted three little boys from Russia into our home as well as a beautiful little girl from China. Our children are named Alastaire Winston (6), Brighton Heath (5), Peter Ebenezer (4), and Millicent Gaynor, who is but three years old. They are all such lovely children, and we could not be more pleased! The boys have taken to their little sister so very well, and little Millie is such a delight and is getting used to haveing three big brothers watch over her. Her command of the English language is still quite troubling, but she has been going to speech therapy; we think she may be delayed somehow, but this hasn't been proven. We are hoping that she gets used to living in a new land and in time, learn our way of talking. Angus has enjoyed being a papa, and I have been tickled pink in being their mum. :)
I am a full-time mum, but me husband, he works for the city of London: he drives a lorry (you refer a lorry as a truck), and he delivers supplies to chemists around the city (you call chemists drugstores in America). His job requires much in the way of travel, so he is only home on weekends. But he is still a wonderful father to his children, and he is a wonderful hubby to me, too! :)
Unlike your children, ours do not have any physical anomalies, but Millie may be delayed, as I explained above. Still, your children sound like wonderful young lads and lassies, and they are like a veritable rainbow: so many different colours, so many wonderful shades! I read your autobiography ("A Family Made Out Of Rainbows And Miracles"), and this was what prompted me to write to you. I honestly hope that this letter doesn't come a cropper (end up badly), for I am not a good writer, and to me, writing letters is like pulling teeth: it is such a dreadfully boring chore! LOL
To describe myself, I look like your typical British woman: prim and proper in manner of dress, simple hairstyle (it is grey and it is straight like a stick), plain features. I also happen to be very heavy (I have always been large, ever since I was a little nipper), so I don't get around all that well. (I use a cane when I am out and about.) I have arthritis in me joints, and at times, I hurt so dreadfully bad it is enough to make me cry! Just chasing me children exhausts me by the end of the day, but it is a job that I wouldn't trade for all the pounds in Britain! :) Me husband, who is from Scotland, has short, curly, light-red hair and ruddy skin, and he has piercing blue eyes as a testament to his Scottish heritage. He even wears a tam and a kilt when he works or goes out in public. (Maybe I will tell you what is under a Scottish gent's kilt another time, but I think I will pass for now...there's children about, and I could get into a serious peck o' trouble, if you know what I mean...Hmmm...mmm! LOL) He and I have been married for 10 1/2 years now, and we have a very sound relationship with one another! :)
Besides adopting children, I also happen to be a very big country music afficianado. I love the Coal Miner's Daughter herself, Loretta Lynn, and I also love Martina McBride. I also (secretly) love Collin Raye and Aussie country music stud, Keith Urban, much to Angus' dismay: he canNOT stand Keith Urban: he says he looks like a girl with his long hair and earring! LOL But I happen to think he is so cute! :) I have been to the CMA Music Festival in Nashville, where you live, several times, and I just LUV it!! :) I have gone there since 1990, and I have met many international country music stars: Loretta Lynn, Martina McBride, Collin Raye (YUM!!), Keith Urban (wottaBONZERhunk! LOL), Slim Whitman, Boxcar Willie, and Mel Tillis, to name but a few, and I have also met Cajun music crooners Doug Kershaw and Jimmie C. Newman. I love them, too! :) But...I haven't seen you there!! According to your autobiography, you stated that you have attended the CMA Music Festival since after I started going, roughly around 1993-1994. Maybe one day we'll get lucky and happen to bump into each other. That would be WILD!! :) (I have already reserved our ticket for the CMA Music Festival next year; hopefully you will have already done the same, for they go so fast!!) In addition to Loretta/Martina/Keith/Collin/Jimmie C./Doug/Mel/Boxcar/Slim, I also love Kata Hay, a young lady from Oklahoma who yodels like an angel (she was on the original "Star Search" with Ed McMahon in the early 90's; I think she was but a little girl of five then) and Josh Turner ("Long Black Train"). My God, he looks (and sounds) JUST like Randy Travis!! It is INCREDIBLE to listen to him sing!! WOW!
Well, dear, before I bore you to the point of tears, I shall run along now. I will write again soon, and until then, I will be looking for your letter in the post. I do hope you write; I don't have much of a social bearing (thanks to the demands of my arthritis/weight issues and especially the demands of my children!), and I do get so dreadfully lonesome at times, especially when Angus isn't home!! (I guess this is why I look forward to Saturday and Sunday so much because then me hubby isn't out with the lorry! LOL) And with Christmas/Boxing Day coming up fast, it is especially difficult. I just hope me hubby doesn't have to work on Christmas or Boxing Day, but seeing that chemists never close (as don't hospitals, police, and fire stations), he just may have to work, and that will surely crush the children's Christmas spirits!

Karen thnx for sharing this delightful story. Friends from around the world. That must really be a ("A Family Made Out Of Rainbows And Miracles"). I wish I had Rainbows and Miracles in my life. President Bush seems determined to have people like me outlawed, and so much so that we cannot enjoy our lives. The Wisconsin Legislature last week passed the Same Sex Marriage ban, and it goes to the voting referendum for the 2006 November election. It is a sin to classify people, and legislate love. But I will be the woman I was meant to be, regardless. I wrote a letter to Governor Doyle and told him that I am a female and I have a right to be female. it is sad when our own democracy turns against us. If this isn't overturned, it will be the first official act of big brother. And governmental big brother is something we do not need in this country. The Pilgrims came from England to escape political and religious persecution, and now George W. Bush wants to bring that persecution back. Anyway sis, thnx for sharing this heartwarming story. I love how you incorporated English slang into this and gave us the translation. The writers of today, to be successful, must write in a multi-cultural fashion and have knowledge of people and other lands, especially when it comes to marketing a book. Our books are sold through Amazon and other book retailers in many foreign countries. My novels are available in France, England, Germany, China, Japan, Australia, Canada, and many other countries.
