This week, Studio Reader Stan meets again with Mr. Gold about socialite Rome Marriott's movie career.
Studio Reader Stan enters Mr. Gold's office at Quality Studios.
Mr. Gold: Studio Reader Stan, our Rome Marriott movie opened this weekend and no one went to see it. I don’t understand why.
Studio Reader Stan: Well, sir, it was by far the worst reviewed movie since... well since forever.
Mr. Gold: Forever?
Studio Reader Stan: Yes, in the entire history of film, there’s never been a worse movie review. In fact, two reviewers quit just so they’d never be subjected to a movie like this again.
Mr. Gold: That’s no excuse. When has bad reviews ever stopped the masses from seeing a movie before?
Studio Reader Stan: Well, my educated guess is that the first few poor souls who paid to see it warned all of their friends, families and neighbors that seeing this movie might cause them to scratch their eyeballs out.
Mr. Gold: Maybe we can sue those people for slander.
Studio Reader Stan: I think they have to be lying for it to be considered slander.
Mr. Gold: Mmm, none of this bodes well for the sequel.
Studio Reader Stan: You’re making a sequel?
Mr. Gold: Yes, we have a brilliant publicity strategy. All of our marketing people believe she’ll probably fall in love soon with someone she thinks is her soul mate. Then, she’ll get married, and a few months later as she’s getting the inevitable divorce or annulment, we’ll release the movie and capitalize on it being in the headlines.
Studio Reader Stan: You're actually paying these marketers?
Mr. Gold: Yes, they’re expensive, too. Thankfully we’ve cut the cost of what we’ll pay for screenplays, and other assorted things, otherwise we couldn’t afford all of them.
Studio Reader Stan: Are these “assorted things” the reason you’ve called me in today?
Mr. Gold: Yes, instead of paying you with money, we’re instead going to give you free passes to all of Rome Marriott’s movies.
Studio Reader Stan: She’s only made one of them and it’s something I wouldn’t see even if you tortured me.
Mr. Gold: Don’t forget the sequel.
Studio Reader Stan wishes he could forget this entire conversation as he leaves with the useless tickets.
Tune in next week for more of Studio Reader Stan's adventures...
