This week, Studio Reader Stan has to deal with Marvin, the beret-wearing hipster.
Studio Reader Stan is in the coffee shop when Marvin comes in and sits, uninvited. Studio Reader Stan tries to pretend he’s busy to avoid another mind-numbing conversation. But it’s to no avail.
Marvin: I’m furious with this business, Studio Reader Stan.
Studio Reader Stan: Why? Did someone ask you to actually do some kind of work?
Marvin: No. Most people know better. It has to do with the Oscars®. If your flick wins best picture, only like two producers can go on stage. And I’m listed as the sixth producer for my last project.
Against his better judgment, Studio Reader Stan asks --
Studio Reader Stan: And what Oscar®-worthy movie is this?
Marvin: Demon’s Breath, Part 4.
He wishes he'd listened to his better judgment.
Studio Reader Stan: That’s too bad. It sounds like it had a real shot at winning.
Marvin: Oh, it’s incredible. The one day I was actually on the set they had a cannon shoot blood at people. That’s good stuff.
Studio Reader Stan: Did you do anything that people would consider producing on the one day you showed up?
Marvin: I flirted with the makeup lady. That probably kept her spirits up.
Studio Reader Stan: And they have the gall to deny you your Oscar® speech?
Marvin: Yes, it’s hard to believe. Of course I did never return her calls and then had her fired so I’d never have to run into her again. But producers have to make tough decisions sometimes. Well, I’m off to sign the deal for my next movie. I’ll be listed as the ninth producer on that one. Ciao.
Mercifully, Marvin finally leaves.
Tune in next week for more of Studio Reader Stan's adventures...
