Studio Reader Stan meets again with studio executive, Ms. Pantsworth.
Studio Reader Stan comes into Ms. Pantsworth’s office at Demure Studios. As usual she’s chomping on a big cigar.
Ms. Pantsworth: Good to see you, Studio Reader Stan. I’ve got exciting new plans for the studio, and it actually involves screenplays.
Studio Reader Stan: You mean you’re going to be reading them again?
Ms. Pantsworth: No, don’t be silly. I’ve got one word for ya’ – remakes. Since the scripts for old movies were already filmed once, no one needs to read them.
Studio Reader Stan: That’s all you’re going to be doing from now on?
Ms. Pantsworth: Exactly. We’ll take all the top-grossing movies from twenty-five years ago and redo them word for word with today’s hottest stars in the roles.
Studio Reader Stan: Do you realize if the studios did that twenty-five years ago there would be no more movies to remake?
Ms. Pantsworth: But they didn’t do it, did they?
Studio Reader Stan: I guess a little thing called “originality” was important to them.
Ms. Pantsworth: I’m not familiar with that word. Is it Yiddish, like “Oy Vey”?
Studio Reader Stan: No, it’s not... Small problem – if everyone adapts this strategy, then won’t there be no movies to remake 25 years from now?
Ms. Pantsworth: Oh that’s not a problem at all. I plan on being long retired by then.
Studio Reader Stan: Oh-kay. Well, seeing as how you won’t be needing anyone to ever read a script for you again, why did you ask to see me?
Ms. Pantsworth: I’ve reached a time in my life where I think I need a butler. Congratulations, the job’s yours.
Studio Reader Stan leaves, wondering why he bothers to get out of bed each morning.
