Mom is 76, and still loves me with a love that taught me how to tie my shoes, try hard to be the best God has made me to be ... she and John are the best part of me in my walk of life
If life was like jepardy ...
The answer is:
It acknowledges, and some
say negates, or
simply is,... inspite of ... what's
thought to be, or what may or may
not be known. Everything, involving ... rumors, gossip, hearsay,or proven documented fact, video, and sciences,or thinking past and present concerning, whatever ...
Including.. theories of relativity,
quantum physics, the space
time continuum, the possibility of 10th dimensions, and beyond, what is being considered and discussed by the great minds of our time, all that is yet to be discovered and known here and on any planet (acknowledging the possibilty of life on other planets)All that is whispered, shouted, or being said over back fences across america, and the world, All that is sent and recieved in emails ,talked about among family and friends, written on walls, or expressed in in way shape form or fashion, It never questions the need for patience, tolerence, the right for personal choice, it further
states and maintains "of course there's a God", even In the face of new world order, and baby boomer rationalizations. It is neither proven or disproven,it is a matter of personal conviction.
Said in a calm clear voice ... we hear ... this! ...
Alex that question is:
What is,
my mom's faith ....
usually expressed to me as, son have
you prayed about it?
"Have you prayed about it"
...those words echo's through
my mind still, even now, and will
always do so, forever no matter
what, , no matter what the
situation was, or consequence
is, no matter what
stands to be gained, lost, or
what I think I know, and any
knowledge it seemed, I had
gained since I last talked with
mom about similar or dissimilar,
crisis of the moment, she
asked, and I supose will continue to ask, have you prayed about
it, ...
Usually going against the
general consensus of
friends,acquaintances, or which
way the wind was blowing it
just is/ was simply asked of me by her ....
well son, she would say, nice
and calmly, in a quite steady
tone, have you prayed about
it,... when I thought I had said
all there was to say to prove
that this was the worse yet, or
more to the point that prayer just
wasn't the answer this time, ...
surely even you mom can see
that ... there is a moment of
silience ... whiile she searches
for the answer she wishes she
could give me to fix it ... I hurt
and she hurts ....and then she
comes to realize there is only
one answer to which she would
reply ..." have you prayed
about it?
"Arrrrrrrrrggggggg, Mom .....
OK mom please listen
Why is the sky blue, how old
is God, I don't feel good, I have
ashma,I hate vegetables, I
can't tie my shoes,I broke my
glasses, I keep falling down,
the kids tease me. I can't run
as fast, my bikes too big, the
teacher doesn't like me, I hate
math. I love school, my voice is
changing,I'm too skinny, my
feet are too big, what do girls
like, how did you meet dad, ...
she said she doesn't like me,
I'm not going to the prom, 4
years of college is too long, I
met someone, she's leaving, I
got married,she's pregnant, we
lost the baby, she's expecting
again... we're doing Lamaze ... I was in the
delivery room,it's a boy, I told you it would be a boy, I'm going to buy a football, we're expecting, again and this time it's a girl... I know it, I was right, it's a girl, she so skinny, the baby's fine but mom .. she's sick,
she might die, pray for her, the
doctor's won't tell me anything,
it's getting worse, mom will you
take the kids for a little while? I
can't take care of her and the
kids, thanks mom. I can't
believe it's been that long since the kids went to be with you,
I miss them ... and mom
the paycheck was short, the car
was wrecked, I didn't get the
job, I'm working two jobs,
overtime is cancelled, I got
fired, this is my chance, it can't
miss, this has never happened
before, I'm lonely, I've tried
everything I know to do, I can't
believe this is happening to me,
I did the right thing, they don't
give me a chance, why me,
why not me, when will my time
come, they expect me to do
everything, I was passed over
again, I gave all I had, I did the
best I could, I was wrong, I was
right, I can't do that .... times
have changed....Mama are you
awake, can I talk to you? What
do you think I should do? I
know mama Jesus, Jesus,
Jesus, God, God, God. Have I
prayed about it right?
As I face what is referred as
my middle age, I face what
other generations before me
have faced. Sometimes my
back goes out, my physical
appearance is not what it used
to be, I am no longer part of the
target age group for the
merchandise advertised,stocked
on shelves or hawked during
the Superbowl. Fads and being
cool are a annoyance, the
music of the day leaves me
wondering, what was the
message the artist was trying
to convey and why did it have
to be said so crudely, why has
the novelty of shock taken the
place of real legitimate talent?
Where are all the execs that
either made the decisions or
allowed the bombardment of things
that compromise our life
and rain down on us, and our children from our t.v. screens, and what is touted as the next best thing?
Who is the person that
decided spanking was too cruel
to happen to a child that
needed discipline? While mom
advocated prayer she also
welded a belt when she felt a
situation merited it. and guess
what, I understood why then
and now, what and why she did
what she did, when she
spanked us, and I don't hate my
mom, because she spanked
me, we usually received a
through warning , three
chances to wise up and a
explanation of the consequences if we chose not to take the advice or
warnings to be on our best
behavior. I don't think it was the
spanking alone within itself that
taught us restraint or
responsibility, it was a
combination of a number of
things. The consequences for
misbehavior were established
and consistant and punishment
did happen when it was
deemed necessary, a standard
was set and we were expected
to reach it.
Now to say that line of thinking is wrong in our family life, but to expect everyone to adhere to it in society is sending mixed messages, as we all know In society when we break the law, the consequences are spelled out and we are expected to behave or face the consequences. Isn't
this unfair that any child that
has been reared under this
present "no spank childhood"
era be should be forced to, pay
a fine, obey the rules, observe
a curfew, be on probation, ...
go to jail, isn't that a little too cruel, can't we just have "time out", I don't think legistrators prayed about that decision or problem, they should have asked my mom.
Balance the budget, health care concerns, wage and cost of living issues, global warming, greenhouse effect, energy crisis, El nonyo, the influx of emigrants, the economy, rise and fall of inflation, wall street, stock markets, world hunger, war, the
middle east ... OK, OK maybe
she can't answer it all ... these
are major problems, and she is
just a retired school teacher,
what can we expect .. consider the
details of and impact of
decisions made on these issues they can't
be comprehended by a 76 year
old ..... who lives in a little town
that for years only had one
traffic light, that's obvious, she's not a politician, so she can't handle questions and make decisions like that ...
Not without.......
a office and a staff and a
moment to think about it all, and
of course not before she reads
her bible and prays.
Wow! All in one breath? My late mother used to ask the same question of us children. Sometimes, she would suggest, "Let's pray right now." And she did, no matter if she were home or in the grocery store. She walked that closely with Him. I respected her stance and your title drew my attention. Incidentally, Do you still take your mom's advice and pray before every decision? I must say I'm guilty of remembering every time, but my baby sister sure has jumped on the band wagon. She's married and she and her spouse practice this very model. I know to wait about three day before I receive an answer from them - just about anything. So who's right? Just asking.
