This week, Studio Reader Stan gets another phone call from his mother.
Studio Reader Stan picks up his ringing phone.
Studio Reader Stan’s Mother: Check this idea out, Studio Reader Stan. A neighborhood sidewalk in small town America learns how to talk and then magically comes to life... Good, huh?
Studio Reader Stan: Mom, haven’t we talked about you never pitching me story ideas anymore?
Studio Reader Stan’s Mother: Excuse me for trying to help your career.
Studio Reader Stan: In what way do you think a script about a talking sidewalk would help my career?
Studio Reader Stan’s Mother: It’d be groundbreaking cinema, not to mention an out and out tear jerker.
Studio Reader Stan: Unfortunately, as with all of your ideas, it makes no sense.
Studio Reader Stan’s Mother: Well, let me flesh it out to clear things up. When he comes to life, he decides to run for Mayor.
Studio Reader Stan: That’s your idea of clearing things up?
Studio Reader Stan’s Mother: What, it couldn’t be clearer.
Studio Reader Stan: If you insist. Let me ask a question I know I’m bound to regret. When he runs for Mayor, does he still look like a sidewalk?
Studio Reader Stan’s Mother: Of course. It has to be believable.
Studio Reader Stan: Uh huh. Is there anything else I should know before I do my best to completely forget we ever spoke about this?
Studio Reader Stan’s Mother: Yes, he’s rejected as Mayor because the townspeople are sidewalkists.
Studio Reader Stan: They’re what?
Studio Reader Stan’s Mother: Sidewalkists. They hate sidewalks.
Studio Reader Stan: All right, I think we’re done here.
Studio Reader Stan’s Mother: Good, I’d like to see a first draft from you in two weeks when I get back from Hawaii.
She hangs up.
Tune in next week for more of Studio Reader Stan's adventures...
