You touch on good points. One has to have a thick skin to survive on this opinionated planet.
Of course the whole point of writing novels and essays and poetry is to provoke the reader to think and feel beyond their own parameters and abilities.
I could care less who agrees with me or who likes me. Although I would rather be liked than maligned or hated, and don't know anyone who doesn't like their ego tickled.
Authors Den is still one of the best interactive sites I've come across - and my novels and poetry and essays are in over 35,000.
As long as there are people doing the same thing there will be ugliness and strife and opinions and hatred from one to another. In my opinion loving one another and communicating for the betterment of both parties is far superior than strife.
Some people are sensitive and interact on this site only as a community of friends walking through life together. There is nothing wrong with this. Many don't have grand aspirations to be successful in the literary realms.
I like you Trask ... you provoke me to think and feel beyond my abilities to do so. There are some here on AD that I wouldn't give the time of day because inside them is nothing but darkness and rancor and phoniness.

It is ironic that when one posts something on AD, that when you review it, you are expected to agree with it, or the weenies run to Matt with their tender feelings hurt. AD has become a website for amateurs, no longer professional authors. Author Zone went the same way. So many restriction were put on writers, Author Zone folded. I have seen so many good authors pull out of AD, it is a shame. It's basic premise was a good one. Too much weenie bullshit now. I'll continue to support "good" authors as long as I am here. They deserve that respect and whatever kudos I can give for their effort.
