Louisiana fires off a quick letter to Audrey Callaway while visiting Johnny in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Weds., March 22, 2007, 5:51 p.m., D.S.T., Nashville, Tennessee~
Dear Audrey~
I am sorry if I haven't written, but things have been crazy this past week. I do hope you forgive me.
I have been at the hospital all day today and last night: Johnny is in the hospital; he went in last night after suffering an episode of status epilepticus (severe, prolonged seizure that can cause death or disability if not dealt with quickly). Thank God he came through it in one piece (he has no brain damage, according to the pediatric neurologist, which is great news), but he is now in the PICU, lying in a drug-induced coma, so he can rest. He'll probably be in the hospital for a few days or so.
It scared the death out of us; when I saw him lying on the ground, blue and gasping for air, I thought for sure he was dying. He had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance; I think this is what saved him.
I will let you know how Johnny is faring once we get more details; but for now he seems to be holding his own. Hopefully he'll be out of the PICU in a few days. We'll see what happens.
In other news, you have probably heard what happened to Rebekkah Rachel and Maddie Cohen. Isn't that just awful? I can't believe some people can be so stupid than to shoot innocent children walking home from church. Even going to church isn't safe anymore; what a scary world we live in today! It is enough to make one sick!
We got some bad news involving Rebekkah: she will probably never be able to use her arms again. She is now a quadriplegic. She is paralyzed from the shoulders down. As you can imagine, her family is devastated. Please be praying for them; they could really use the prayers!
On the other hand, we got some good news: first and foremost, we are doing well (okay, Johnny isn't at the present time). We have applied to adopt a sixtieth child with special needs; we are adopting a little three-year-old boy from Finland who is blind and hearing-impaired. His name is Bjorn Wilhem, and he is adorable! He looks a lot like Johnny did when he was a toddler! It's like looking at Johnny as a child all over again!
We also found out that Kendra is pregnant. It is official, and I am sure by now that Michael (Kendra's new husband; they were married almost two weeks ago) knows. It is something of a miracle because Kendra wasn't expected to conceive a child of her own; she has spina bifida and is in a wheelchair.
(Of course, you should know that by now. Boy, Louie, sometimes you are so stupid--LOL)
I am glad that Susie is hanging in there; she is worried though about Rebekkah and Maddie; she has a right to be; after all, they are her friends. All she can do (all we can do, really) is pray to God, pray that the girls make it through this crisis. Ronee' has been depressed about it as well, and we are seriously considering psychiatric counseling for her. She has really been down in the dumps, and she can't seem to shake her blue funk, which is so unlike her.
Of course, Johnny's being in the hospital doesn't help the situation any. I think Ronee' has cried more the past few days than she has in a very long time; she has had a lot build up inside of her, and it is finally coming to the surface. Ronee' has had a lot on her mind lately. She is feeling very vulnerable right now.
We all are.
How is the weather there? Here it is nice, but Bill and I are stuck inside a hospital room; we are afraid to leave Johnny's side, for fear something might happen if we were not there. We have always had this fear; it's happened before, and this is why whenever any of our kids are in the hospital, we camp out at the hospital until the danger has passed.
Well, we are going to go now; the doctor wants to speak with us. Hopefully he will have good news concerning Johnny. Will keep you updated. Take care, Audrey, and God bless! Love you!

So much packed into one letter!! Amazing how Louie May can cope! Your writings also help us to see another side of the world, one where disabilities are cared about with love and tenderness. I'm always left wondering what will happen next??
