Louisiana finally gets some "down time" at work, to where she can add something to her journal.

Dear Journal~
It's just me, li'l ol' Louisiana, writing again. I don't get to write in here, not like I used to, except every few days, just enough to add a little snippet or two, just long enough to let y'all I'm still alive! LOL
Well, I'm another year older. Thirty-eight, just turned 38 on June 10th of this year. And yesterday, the 26th, Bill and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. The kids pooled their money; they got us a small cedar chest. It's really pretty. They also told us to go out to eat; we went to one of Nashville's finer restaurants, where we had a wonderful dinner, and well-deserved time away from the kids.
It was nice to get away from the children, even if it was only for the evening.
Bill got me a diamond cross necklace. When I saw it, I cried. No wonder he was acting so peculiar; he wanted to surprise me, which, as it turned out, he did.
It was a wonderful day, even though the weather wasn't: it rained off and on all day; nothing heavy, but certainly enough to need the bumbershoots and the rain gear.
That's the funny thing about birthdays. Most people would rather be younger than they really are. As for me, I'm happy just to be 38. I'm grateful for every day that God lets me live. I was born a premie (not expected to survive; I'm told I weighed under two pounds at birth), but God had plans, big plans, for me. That's why I'm still here, 38 years later. I'm indeed blessed! :)
People act confused, though, when I tell them that my oldest daughter, Lightning, is now 25. They say, "You mean you got pregnant at the age of thirteen??" I tell them no; I tell them I had my first child at the age of sixteen, not long after I met the man who would eventually become my husband. I had to get married to Bill Sandusky because I was with child; I didn't wante my unborn child to be called a "bastard", a product of unwed parents. No, my child certainly deserved more than that; he or she deserved to have two parents who were married.
As for my oldest child, she wasn't born to me. She was adopted. (All of my children are adopted, yet they are ours, legally and permanently.) We adopted Lightning when she was fifteen. (Hard to believe we've now had Lightning for ten years! Time sure does fly!) Only then do people understand--but only after I tell the entire story first! :)
It only gets more interesting when I tell people that I'm a grandparent to seven beautiful grandchildren!
Well, this past weekend (June 23-25), we were at a Cajun festival. We had fun looking at all the Cajun crafts, dancing to the Cajun music, eating all that wonderful Cajun food! YUM! :P I also acquired a nice sunburn; I look like a boiled crawfish! LOL (Feel like one, too! LOL) The weather for the festival was beautiful, but we're in need of some additional rainfall. Seems we are in a drought situation here in the southland while other places (Texas, Oklahoma, the rest of the Plains) keep getting inundated with one rain event after another. We have had some rain, but we need more to put a dent in this drought.
Meanwhile, poor Texas is getting inundated; they can't seem to escape the catastrophic flooding that's currently going on there. More rains last night; more death and destruction from the ever-rising waters. I pray that Texas gets a needed break from all this rain soon; Lord knows, they need a respite from all that wet weather!!
I was late getting to work today: 10 minutes, in fact. There was a wreck involving a motorcycle verses a police cruiser. The paramedics were working on the motorcyclist when I motored past in my van. I pray that the motorcyclist wasn't seriously injured. I do believe, though, he'll be in trouble with the police, since he ran into the backend of their police car!
Now I'm busy taking care of ten patients in the orthopedic ward, which is always enjoyable. I love working on the orthopedic floor! :)
My fellow nurses keep making jabs about my sunburn. They say things like "Got a little sun, Louie?", then laugh like it's the funniest thing in the world. Oh, well, I don't mind; really, I don't mind it at all!
Well, gang, I'm being paged, so I'll go for now. I'll write in here again soon (hopefully before July 4th; I'm off that day, believe it or not! :) ). I worked on the Fourth of July last year, but got off in plenty of time to get the crew to the park and see the fireworks. Take care, and God bless!
Hope Louisana had a nice 38th.. She sure leads a full life . You have a talent of making your characters come to life. Thanks for your kind words of encouragement.....M
A great write, enjoyed the insight on the history of Louisian's life. I too got married at sixteen, my husband and I often tease and say that we have raised each other, or that we've been married all of our lives. We actually grew up across the road from each other, and were very good friends before we dated. We dated for a year and the rest is history! I agree with what Louisiana said about life going quickly, boy don't it though! Birthdays remind us of that! I have one coming up in a few weeks, turning the big forty four...seems as only days ago that I turned forty. Where do the years go? Hmm, I guess that is just more incentive to live each day to it's fullest, appreciate and enjoy them. Great write my friend, enjoyed!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Warm, caring, and loving, Karen. I just love reading about Louisiana and her large family of adoptive children with disabilities. When you write these stories, Karen, you show the love and caring that is in you warm, generous heart. I get a lot out of these stories when I read them. They are so sweet, and the love just flows in them, like it does your heart. Thank you for sharing sis.
May the Lord Jesus Bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your sister, Barbie
