Allie Nichole Soileau is having a hard time of it. Complications have set in, thus, hampering her recovery from her injuries; more time to be spent in the hospital, much to her dismay. She records her feelings in her second journal entry.
Just when I thought a light was at the end of the long, dark tunnel, I have been cruelly blindsided: am now recovering from surgery on my stump. I had a bone spur at the end of my left stump that was causing me horrible pain; docs had to go in there, shave the excess bone off. Sound painful? You bet, but I didn't know anything: they had mercifully knocked me out cold.
The surgery went great; now an infection has settled in the bone, and they're draining the crap out of there. It really hurts; hurts worse'n a toothache. Utter misery.
Poor doc and the nursies have been trying to relieve my misery; I'm afraid I haven't been the sweet, demure Cajun girl my mamma raised me to be; let's face it: I've been a regular B-I-T-C-H!!
The sweet little Cajun nurse I'd met at the Fourth of July celebration has been working at the VA hospital (she works there once a week per month); it was great seeing her again. She truly loves what she does; loves our veterans, and cares what happens to people like us, which is more than I can say for our government--or most other people. Most people don't want to hear of the war; they are tired of the same old drivel; they want this war to end because they say it's dragged on long enough.
I'm inclined to agree with them, but if we pull out now we are only going to get attacked by Al Quaeda again--and it may be very well be worse than it was on September 11, 2001. We are only asking for trouble if we pull out too early. This is one reason why I signed up into the military in the first place: I love my country, the United States of America, all that she stands for; I want our freedoms to be preserved for future generations to come. When we were horrifically attacked that bright, beautiful September morn, our rights were violated; we had no choice but to respond, to fight back. I was already in the military when this happened; it just made me more determined to fight, to protect America with all my being.
I have been really bummed out since finding out about the bone infection. For now, the progress I've been making in therapy has been stopped until my infection clears. I'm stuck in bed--or in a wheelchair during my waking hours. I was learning how to walk with the help of bright red Lofstrand crutches that clamped at the elbows; was doing pretty good, but then this damn bone spur popped up, then the surgery, now this dadburned infection, and now I have to wait until the infection goes away. I'm now on IV antibiotics, and I'm in pain, PAin, PAIN!!!!
The pain does little to improve my souring attitude. I have been in a hospital for the past nine months; I am sick of hospital beds, sick of IVs, sick of all the repeated needle sticks, sick of all the disgusting hospital food, sick of--PAIN!!!! I want out of here; I am about to go stir-crazy!! If I don't get out of this goddamned hospital soon, I just may find myself a gun and blow my lovin' Cajun brains out....
