I may have forgotten this Afghan child’s name but I can’t forget her face.
And neither should you.
Don't be shocked or cry for this child... Be grateful for what you have or haven't.
And I do sincerely apologize for bringing the war to your den today…
Forever written in my memory
the war time memory, filled of chapters that brim
from hatred to compassion to sadness
Look not with pity on this child but instead with love,
In a war that knows not.
Rescued by caring soldiers from a murderous and unforgiving society
Her parents live in hope for a better life
Struggling to survive, perhaps with the hope for freedom and not a new face
I watched from afar, my feelings went from stunned silenced shock
To pity and a prayer
that God in his goodness and kindness will forgive and heal the wounds
the wounds of a child and a nation.
Did the event 9-11 bring me so far to a God forsaken land
to lose friends and see the suffering and mauled face of a child?
Stacked in the windows of my mind
You’ve seen pictures like these that typify the ugliness of war and its innocent victims.
But many soldiers go beyond the call of duty to show their care and kindness to a Child's face burnt almost beyond recognition but healing now.
A soldier’s kindness is about thinking of others and extending themselves and resources to meet the needs of others.
But what’s the point and message of this story?
Simple: it doesn’t take me from Afghanistan to tell you that treating people with kindness will keep you going in the right direction.
But you do so at the risk of other’s selfishness and indifferences ---Ask not what will they do for you but rather what can you do for them…
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” Ephesians 4:2
