Bill is happy to learn that Johnny is being moved out of Intensive Care and may be released from the hospital in a few days.

Thursday, September 27, 2007, 6:48 a.m., D.S.T., Nashville, Tennessee~

Dear Journal~

Bill here. Just spoke with Drs. Ram, Stryker, Arjuwal, and Emmons; very good news today, the best news since Johnny came into the hospital. He is getting ready to be moved to the PCU (Progressive Care Unit), down the hall from ICU, but definitely out of the ICU, where he's been since his arrival.

The respiratory techs are with him now, getting ready to remove the ventilator (I bet he will be glad of that!!), and I'm waiting for them to call me so I can go with him when he's transferred. I am very excited; the doctors also say that he may be released as soon as a few days, and that his vital signs are stable. The nose hose is coming out too; Johnny may be able to eat a little liquid food later. I hope so; he's awfully skinny...

He needs some meat on that scrawny little body of his...

I slept at least five hours last night; it felt good to sleep, but now I have a terrible crimp in my back and neck (*OW*); hospital couches were not designed for sleeping! (I should have slept on the floor; it would have been a lot easier.)

The doctors still aren't sure what caused Johnny to have a seizure like the one he did, but they told us to watch him closely, make sure he takes his medication as directed, and make sure that he doesn't have too much in the way of stress. (Yeah, right. His whole life is nothing but stress; easier said than done!) If he has another one, he is to come back and the docs will then figure out what to do next.

Oh, good. The ventilator's out. Johnny's now breathing with only the help of supplimental oxygen via nasal prongs. He's breathing on his own with no trouble. It's okay to go back into his room as we wait for the nurses to move his bed. Hang on; will be back...

Okay. Now that Johnny is in his new room (it's smaller than the one he was previously in), I can continue writing. I need to sleep some more, but I am keyed up. Johnny's lying in bed, looking at me, trying to figure out where he's at. I tell him he's in the PCU, he's been moved out of the ICU, and that he's getting better. He smiles at me. He is glad to know that the respirator is gone, now he wants that nose hose out of there. I tell him to be patient, the nurse would be in shortly to deal with that.

Oh, ick! Johnny just gacked all over. Nose hose is now gone. Now the nurse has to clean him up; he's crying. He hates having the nose hose; worse, he hates to throw up. I don't blame him. Throwing up is not pleasant for anyone! The nurse keeps purring soft nonsense into his ear, to calm him down. When she tells him that he can eat later, Johnny weakly raises his hand up into the air, does a thumbs up sign, to show that all is well with his world. (Not well, per se, but definitely improving.)

The sun is due to come up; the sky is lightening up to the east; looks like it's going to be a nice day. Maybe I'll go out to the waiting area later and just sit back, watch the scenery around me, get my mind together. My mind's a jumbled mess right now: disjointed thoughts bouncing like ball bearings against my skull; thought processes making no sense whatsoever!

I guess this is what happens when one  has had a rough week like we have had. Too much time at the hospital, too much worry, too much stress; need to go back home, love on the little woman, love on the kids, give them some deserved time, attention. Need to call work to let them know I'll probably be back by the middle of next week, possibly even sooner (like on Monday). This not working is not helping the paycheck, we are really going to have to scrimp our pennies and save, save, save, so we can pay the bills!

Well, I am going to lie down in the hall and take a nap. I really need to sleep; my body is telling me to rest, rest, rest! I will write in here again; take care and God bless!

~Bill. :)

Just pray that Johnny's health continues to improve and that no more medical drama unfolds in our family; I've had enough of hospitals for a while....more than enough!!

What a relief for Bill. It must be entirely joyous to surpass such a frightening ordeal with one's child. Great write.

Karen,

Humor. Relief. A tinge of worry, still...excellent write, Karen! Poor Johnny has gone through more than a body should. So has Bill. So do any that have a loved one in the hospital (as YOU know). You capture it perfectly!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
