Old Paddy writes to his son Mick, who is serving a life sentence in an English jail, for murder.
Dear Mick, he writes.
I don't know how i'm going to turn the soil in the field over to plant the potatoes this month without you.
What with me bad back and all. You were always the man for that son. But next week I will take my shovel and try to do my best.
Six days later Paddy receives a letter from his son.
Dad, the letter starts.
Do NOT dig in the field. Thats where I buried all those bodies.
That same day five police vehicles accompanied by twenty soldiers pull up at Paddy's farm, all armed with shovels, and they start digging in the field. Ten hours later they find nothing and leave.
Paddy receives a letter from Mick two days later.
Dear Dad, it says.
That was the best I could do for you under the circumstances. Mick
