Nashi's medical situation has vastly improved, much to the delight of her mother; still, caring for a child like Nashi is not easy, as her mother continues to relate.
Miracle of miracles, Nashi's made it through her latest medical crisis!!
She's been moved out of the Intensive Care. She's awake, more aware. Nashi will probably make it, according to her doctors, we can expect to be here a couple more days and then we can go home.
She is eating again (by feeding tube), her color's vastly improved, and is no longer spending her days on oxygen. She's smiling more than she was prior to getting sick, even laughing at times.
I just noticed that in my last entry about her, I put Nashville, Tennessee instead of Sonora, California. It goes to show you just how tired I've been lately. I have not slept good since Nashi ended up in the hospital; the holidays were a whirlwind of activity; glad they're behind us!! I am in Sonora, NOT Nashville! Thought I'd clarify things! LOL
Anyway, back to my story. Nashi is lying on the bed, playing with her latest toy, a small, light-blue teddybear that plays soothing music. She absolutely loves it!! Her poppy (my dad) got it for her for Christmas. She has a huge smile on her face; her giggles make my heart sing!
The nurses and doctors are delighted that she's improved so much. So am I!
The hospital staff absolutely adores Nashi. Whenever she's in the hospital, they make sure she's happy as she can be or at least, comfortable. They make sure she's clean, changed, well-"fed". They take wonderful care of my daughter.
They are never afraid to give me advice or answer any questions that I might have regarding her care.
We may be making a return trip to Nashville this year to see hubby's parents. If Nashi is doing well in relation to her health, she will come with us; if not, we'll take Hyman, our younger child, with us and put Nashi in respite care; that way, we can have a break from caring for her.
Nashi's illness has been a huge strain on all of us.
We need to get away, do things as a normal family, not worry about doctors, tube-feedings, hospital stays, or changing diapers on a eight-year-old child.
That's the reality we face in caring for a child like Nashi. We love her, yet we feel burdened by her needs. It's no wonder hubby and I have been fighting with each other. No wonder Hyman has been showing anger/resentment towards his older sister, because (through no fault of her own), she has robbed him of his childhood!
Well, I am going to go to the cafeteria, get myself a latte' mocha, perhaps a bagel or two. I'm suddenly hungry; my stomach is growling; I know Nashi's heard it because now she's lying there, looking towards me, giggling her head off. For some reason, whenever my stomach growls, she finds it hilarious.
Karen Nashi's story is so touching as my family is going through some health storms I can relate to the exhaustion on every level. PLB&G for caring sharing and writing this inspirational piece. < < < <HUGS>>> Mikii
