Bryson Blake Humphrees, the little boy featured in the three-part series "Thanksgiving Worries", is home, out of the hospital, and doing much better, much to his mother's delight.
It's been nothing short of a miracle.
A few months ago, I wouldn't have dreamt this day would be possible; yet here we are, enjoying life, enjoying the blessings God's bestowed upon us, enjoying...Bryson.
Bryson Blake, my now seven-year-old son, is home from the rehab hospital; he had gotten sick with meningitis just prior to Thanksgiving, and for a while, things looked mighty sticky. Now he's walking (on crutches until he gets his strength back up), and talking.
Whenever we go anywhere, though, we use a wheelchair; too much walking for him; it's easier for him.
Doctors initially feared that he would have permanent brain damage or severe physical disabilities; yet he's proving them wrong by overcoming the odds placed upon him.
Bryson is getting stronger every day; therapy seems to be doing wonders; he's now laughing, playing again. Perhaps a little slower in getting around, and not as surefooted (hence the crutches; they're for his balance), but still--he is busy playing with his toy cars, annoying his sister Hannah (she's four), and picking on the kitty.
We shouldn't be too angry with him: after all, he is still recovering, under a doctor's care, still has therapy to help him move, speak better. We know life for the past month or so has been hard on him; we should understand his feelings; he is very vulnerable right now.
Ever since Bry first got sick with meningitis, I've been on pins and needles, for fear he will get sick again. To see him lying so still in ICU, tubes attached to him everywhere, monitors keeping tabs on his life signs, is a nightmare I wish I could put behind me; it was one of the worst times I could ever go through as a parent! I wouldn't wish something like that on my own worst enemy!!
Well, I have to make the kids something to eat, then I have to take Bryson to his post rehab checkup, then go to the store. We're getting low on laundry detergent, food, and other necessities. Take care, and God bless! I will keep you updated on Bryson's progress!
I knew once, in California, of a little girl which got meningitis and feared totally disabled when waking up.
Their parents didn't vaccinated for some religious reason and nearly lost her. God was smarter, He saved the girl that today is a healthy mother of three (all vaccinated).
