If not, let me enlighten you a little. Name's Nathan Lake, aged sixteen.
I'm the guy with the horrible looking face. I was born with serious facial deformities; have had a lot of surgeries to try to make my face appear more normal; however, compared to most people, I still look pretty ghastly.
Because of this, I am something of a loner. Don't have many friends. I prefer to spend time by myself. I don't know if I am happier this way, but it sure cuts down on the hurtful remarks from others.
I am subjected to many rude stares or comments. People are always making digs at my face; it embarrasses me. Why can't they learn to look underneath the surface, see the real me inside?
That's not asking too much!
Well, I've told you about myself, my interests, what makes me tick. I haven't really written about my family, other than briefly mentioning my mom and dad. I am the oldest of three kids in the family: I have two younger sisters, Cadence Marie (13) and Giovanna (Vanna) Grace (10). They're normal: they weren't born with my facial deformities (thank goodness!).
Like most kids, we sometimes fight, wish that we could get away from each other; however, most of the time we get along great. The beauty of having two sisters like mine is that they don't mind my facial problems. They accept me as I would want to be accepted: like any normal teenager, which is really kind of cool.
When my sisters hear the kids at school teasing me about my ugly face, they get mad; one time Cadence got into a fight with a ninth grader, beat him up pretty good. She'd heard him call me "The Creature", and it really pissed her off big time.
It kinda made me feel good because it shows that there are people who care about me, no matter how hideous I may appear to them.
If there's anything that bothers my family, it's my looks. They wish I wouldn't have to go through so many hospital stays, surgeries, to fix what Mother Nature screwed up. I don't like it any better than they do; yet if people can fix my face to where it looks more humanlike, then I'm cool with that.
Seems like "The Creature" is becoming a thing of the past, slowly, bit by bit. It may take a while, but eventually I'll look nearly like everyone else, and then maybe the teasing, the stares, the finger pointing, will stop.
God, I hope so! A guy can only take so much teasing before he loses it!!
I will write more later; have to get crackin' on my homework. It's a killer assignment; gonna take all evening for me to get it completed before tomorrow. Grrr!! I hate homework with a deep-seated purple psasion!!
