(In the spring of 2012 a beleaguered President from Illinois arrived at the scene of the greatest catastrophe of the Class War of 2010-12. After a sleepless night, he had flown in on Air Force One and jotted down his thoughts on a napkin. This is what he said at the memorial service, recorded in HDTV for the world to see and hear.)
"Eleven score and sixteen years ago, our founding fathers, members of the slaveholding elite and of the Mystic Order of the Free Masons, declared their freedom from the King's taxes and conceived on this continent a new nation dedicated to the principle that some men are created equal, while women and others are not.
"Now we are engaged in a great class war, testing whether that nation, so conceived by driving the native population from the land, plundering its natural riches for personal gain, and spreading its doctrine throughout the world by mighty force, can, in fact, indeed, whether it should, endure. We are met at a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate, to consecrate, a portion of that devastation as a final resting place for those who have given their lives so that a new nation may emerge from the ashes of the old. It is altogether proper and fitting that we should do so.
"But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate... we cannot consecrate... we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men and women, living and dead, who have long brought this war, struggled to end the differences that separate us and give us a true equality have consecrated it far beyond our ability to add or detract. The world, engaged in its great struggle to survive, will make little note or remember what is said here today. But we can never forget what they have done here in our name. We can never forget their noble unfinished work and their sacrifice so that all men, women and children will have an equal chance to survive. We can never forget their commitment for which they gave the last full measure of their devotion. We here highly resolve that henceforth from this day forward that they have not died in vain, but that this nation shall have a new birth of freedom and that government by the people and for the people shall not perish from this earth."
But this time around the dividing line may not be race so much as money for the ever-growing precious few commodities we all need - I would have put at the end...." that government by the corporation and for the corporation shall not perish from this earth."
