My name is Brandy. Brandy Hughes. I live in Spokane, Washington, with my two children, Tatiana Morgan, seven, and Jeremy Blaize, eight.
My daughter is healthy. Jeremy is not. Jeremy was born with an extreme form of dwarfism that's left him the size of a Cabbage Patch doll. He is extremely tiny, wears doll-sized clothing, and has health problems stemming from his dwarfism, among them a tracheostomy.
Jeremy has been in and out of the hospital ever since I've had him (I adopted him at the age of one; he came to me from Korea). He's subjected to bouts of pneumonia, any number of respiratory ailments that threatened his life. However, God's brought him through, and he's still fighting today.
Jeremy is a very outgoing, gregarious child with a mischevious streak. There is absolutely nothing he won't try to do. He's one of the most courageous little guys I've ever known!
His sister, meanwhile, is as quiet as Jeremy is noisy. She would rather keep to herself; she's rather shy; it takes her a while to warm up to people.
Tatiana was adopted from Russia when she was a year old.
Having two children has been nothing but a learning experience, especially from Jeremy's situation. I'd never been around children who were disabled until I adopted Jeremy; it's been a neverending adventure!
Jeremy is all boy: he loves to play sports (football, baseball, soccer are his favorites; I'm always afraid the bigger kids will squash him if they fall on him or his trache tube will end up being pulled out), watch tv ("Power Rangers" and "American Gladiators" are his favorite shows), write, read, play on the computer.
Tatiana, meanwhile, loves to watch the Disney Princess movies on the DVD player, write stories or poems, sing, dance (she wants to be a prima ballerina when older).
Most of the time, Tatie and Jeremy get along famously; I couldn't be more blessed.
Well, I have to get Jeremy's lunch ready: he has a checkup at the pediatrician's in an hour and a half; don't want to be late. Hopefully he'll have a good report from Dr. Aronson. I will write in here again; I could write a book about Jeremy, I have so many wonderful stories about him!
