You are so small, so soft
your black and brown fur shimmers in the sun
splashing across the floor
as you recover;
I rub your little ears and look at your beautiful face
petting you to help you get better
telling you it will be...ok

is for you to run across the fields again
and play
in the wild grasses
in the lonely places
where your barking
is joy
and your wagging tail
