Jill has a mis-adventure by calling the chickens home to roost.

                                         The Ballad Of Chicken Jill
                                                                *
There is an old saying when things go  wrong:  “The chickens  are coming home.....To Roost!”

Well this is the story of Chicken Jill who got so fed up waiting for the chickens to come home to roost.... She went up the hill to call the chickens home. I mean Jill was angry. She was mad as could be. Jill stood up straight for everyone to see. Both hands on her mouth she began to call: Chickens! Chickens! Chickens! ...... You have been gone too long. It is now time for you to come on home! Chickens! Chickens! Chickens! ....... We have been waiting too long...... Wherever you are....Come on Home! Every chicken who can hear my call ....... Get your butts in gear and come on home, here...to..Me! Stop all that scratching and chicken talk.... flap your wings and walk that walk. I don’t care how you get here. .....But it’s time! ....It is time to come on home ......and roost!

According to eyewitnesses who swear they were there Chickens started coming from everywhere. I mean Chicken Nuggets from Burger King; Wendy’s Chickens with charcoal flame; McDonald Chickens came with fries, Popeye Chickens with spicy thighs. There were fried chickens; chickens broiled and chickens baked; chicken breasts and chicken steaks. Chicken Cacciatore, Chicken a’ la king.......and a herd of chickens with buffalo wings. There was Chicken Little, Chicken George, Chicken Willie, and Chicken Floyd. There were chickens who danced, and chickens who sang; even the San Diego Chicken came! ....All these chickens heard Jill’s call.....Even Big Bird came........Home to roost!

This huge invasion of chickens put the town in despair....Chickens, chickens, chickens. And droppings, droppings , droppings everywhere! Chickens, chickens, chickens .....With no place for them to roost! And there was Jill on the top of the hill ....with all of these chickens. Chickens as far as the eye could see. ....Chickens here; chickens there; chickens, chickens, chickens.... everywhere. .....And not one single place to roost! Jill felt proud. And everyone had to agree......After all these years only she ......had thought ....to call ....the chickens ....home. Jill had brought all the chickens home to .....roost!

Curiously, Jill looked down at all the chickens standing around.... Clucking, clacking and clawing the ground.......There was not a single hen to be found! ......All the chickens who came home to roost ....were roosters! All the Clucking, clacking and prance....... were part of the chickens mating dance! Oh’ my goodness gracious! Heaven’s to Bessy! Jill was heard to exclaim. This is not what I expected; this is not part of the game! I mean, I wanted them to come home to roost. I am not ready to be a goose! .....Jill lit out like a bat ......down the hill........ Some say them roosters are chasing her still. And we can now all understand ....Never, never, never, ever, ever, ever ........ call chickens home to roost.

The moral of this story is “It’s best to let sleeping dogs lie”; “The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence”; “Be careful what you wish for: The fantasy in your mind...may be different from what you see in the mirror”! And finally: Leave the chickens alone.....They know when it’s time to come home.....to roost!

Oh by the way; there is a statue .....on the top of the hill ....dedicated to our hero ......Chicken Jill.
