UGLY AMERICANS

       I was watching Good Morning America on July 3, 2006.  They were doing a spot on 'Ugly Americans'.  What the spot revealed was how we Americans are perceived in England, France, Canada, Germany and the Middle East.  It wasn't good.  As a matter of fact it was downright disturbing.

            Being of semi-sound mind and unwavering courage of conviction, I was moved enough to write what I felt about the spot and what I actually experience on a day-to-day basis in a place called, Ron's World.

            Now, I'm not a flag waving, bible thumping, American.  I'm far from it.  What I am is an American who isn't afraid to say what's on his mind, in my own country, where I have that unalienable right, contrary to what Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton think. 

I've been around since 1944 and over the years I've seen my hard earned tax dollars squandered on countries that despise and hate us.  It seems to me the only time we're thought about as, 'Fairly Good Looking Americans' (that's short for 'dances well and has a nice personality'), is when we're spending American dollars on these Ugly Europeans and 'Holy War Middle Easterners'.  Just what the hell is a Holy War, anyway?  Why don't we call them what they are, Terrorists, and keep them the hell out of here and send them back where they belong. Better yet, why not simply not allow them into this country in the first place?  Problem solved!  My grandparents from Poland and Sicily had to stay on Ellis Island a long time before they were allowed into the United States. They had to learn to read, write, and SPEAK English. So should these people!

            I don't recall we Americans being so 'ugly' during World War II when England was being bombed off the planet by Germany and we stepped in to bail their sorry butts out of extinction.  I don't recall France thinking we were so 'ugly' when we stepped in and liberated their country from Germany's occupation of them and the entire European continent.  Hell, their whole cowardly government, from de Gaulle down the ladder, did all they could do to prevent the Americans from setting them free.  Ask 'Ike' about that one.  I won't even get into the bail out of France in Viet Nam.  Further, The Marshall Plan and U.S. dollars rebuilt Europe in 1947. The Europeans couldn’t find their asses with both hands. 

What I do remember was my family, and millions of other Americans being short a whole bunch of beloved fathers, sons, brothers, cousins, and uncles at the end of World War II.  The countries, where these brave young men fought and died, set aside 'hallowed ground' in memory of those brave Americans and Allied Forces who gave all so they might be free. The graves of American war dead in these countries we helped liberate are now getting desecrated and by the very people we helped.  You Europeans have little room to talk about being 'ugly' especially when my family and other families sacrificed the way they did for you.  Shame on you!

            I'm a very simple man, which means I have simple solutions to problems.  Take illegal immigration along our Southern border with Mexico, for instance.  What's the big deal?  We put together a fleet of dredges and D12 Caterpillars and deepen the Rio Grande to a depth of 20 feet for the whole 2,200 miles.  On the U.S. side of the now not so shallow river, we make a plateau a few feet deep to create a marshland a quarter of a mile wide and plant water hyacinths.  They have a pretty bloom once a year, which would make the border extremely beautiful…a kind of green belt effect.  Some fish and critters love feeding and hiding in these water plants.  All the while this is going on, we have the Army Corps of Engineers take the dirt and send it to New Orleans to repair all the dikes and make them high enough to keep the Mississippi River where they think it should be, until Mother Nature decides once again to show we humans how really stupid we are.  After all that is done we relocate 10,000 very horny and hungry Southern Alligators and a few schools of the always-hungry piranha into the remodeled Rio Grande River.  With this project complete, the politically incorrect term, 'Wet Backs', will be gone forever, the Mexican government can take care of their own, and the U.S. can do away with having a second language to deal with and we can get back to speaking English, which, after all, is our language except for this…Adios, Amigos!  Two problems solved at once!

My lady friend, Rosie, ran a small beer bar, in the tourist town of Madeira Beach, FL.  That little pimple of a place on the map is 'infested' with foreign visitors, (and I use that term loosely because visitors should be polite) from all the places mentioned in the first paragraph.  They are loud, obnoxious, boorish, snobbish, rude, demanding, unappreciative, for the most part, alcoholic in nature and don't tip well at all.

They come here to 'visit' each year, some with green cards because they plan to grace us for a longer while with their winning ways and warm personalities, with only one thing in mind…extracting their pound of flesh by treating Americans lower than the belly of a Seattle slug.  They find nothing redeeming about America or we Americans. They don't mind making the topic every day of how bad we are whether it be sports, politics, or simply, the way we Americans live.  One happy Brit came into the bar the one day and proclaimed how the American soccer team was sent home in tears after their defeat in the World Cup games.  I don't recall seeing any TV footage of that contrived scenario.  What I did see the morning of July 3rd, was footage of the English team in tears after their defeat by Portugal and leading the chorus line of tearful Brit players was the incomparable Beckham himself.  Quite a sight if you missed it.

Rosie used to fly the flags of all the countries whose patrons visited her bar.  However, the last year she had the bar the only flags flying were the American Stars and Stripes, and all the American military flags.  She has taken back her business like the U.S Marines took Iwo Jima.  It became a place for Americans to come and enjoy without having to listen to crude remarks and innuendos by rude foreign visitors.  Understanding there are polite foreigners who add colorful information about their countries, they were always welcome but the malcontents were welcome to go find their little holes to congregate in and discuss the 'ugly Americans' there.

We Americans aren't blameless for some of the woes of the world and it would be naïve to think we were.  Our biggest problem is we have politicians who listen to the whining and woes of the rest of the world and they feel compelled to help these countries in the name of 'foreign relations' and 'human rights', and at our tax paying expense, of course. 

Some of our more financially privileged citizens compound the problem by spending billions every year to visit these unappreciative countries to become targets and leave our U.S. dollars for them to enjoy.  I'll bet you've never seen any of these rude Europeans torching a single U.S. Dollar the way they torch Old Glory.  Hell no!  Our money is a thing of beauty to them and they take all we give with warm phony smiles and then have the audacity to subject us to their degradation every chance they get. 

For all its sham and drudgery at times, I love my country and I wouldn't spend one penny, one schilling, one sou, or one drachma to visit any one of these countries that love Americans only for what they can get from us with no courtesy or respect in return.

            If you believe what the press reports, our biggest concern in this country is Health Care. Then why, I ask, do we keep spending what amounts to trillions of U.S. dollars on countries and illegal aliens that don't give a damn about us and we keep ignoring our own people?  Just the cost of the Iraq War alone could have started our own Health Care System, for hard working, tax-paying Americans only, of course, and our hard earned Social Security System would have had a nice infusion of U.S. dollars. 

Here's a simple solution to Health Care and Social Security in the good 'ol U.S. of A.  No social benefits of any kind to illegal aliens or offspring born here to an illegal alien.  Make all the politicians in Congress live with the same health coverage 'we the people' have for the same cost out of pocket WE enjoy.  I guarantee you it'll be straightened out over night.  This will allow all the politicians to become truly committed to us.  What a unique concept, huh?  Problem solved!

I don't like rude visitors in my country and I despise illegal aliens who come here to live a better life then spend their spare time becoming more successful career criminals than they were in their homelands, tearing us down and trying to force the will of their homelands on us while we give them more social benefits than we give our own people.  These people get PELL Grants, CARIBE money, housing allowances, free food, free medical care, and any other freebie we’re willing to give them.  All of this comes to them without them being required what we the people are required to do to even get Social Security.  They start out receiving about $2,800.00 per month in freebies without having paid one penny into Social Security.  We have to wait until age 62 to receive about $1,000.00 per month and we get no medical benefits or any health care.  What’s wrong with this picture?  If their 'homelands' are so great, why don't they go back?  I'll gladly help pay for that one-way ticket. 

I'm an American.  I love being an American.  I possess strong courage of conviction.  I will not allow my courtesy to be mistaken for weakness.  I have the power and responsibility to stand up for what I believe.  I would rather be hated for the American I am than loved for what I'm not…that of being their bottomless piggy bank and the brunt of their appalling, reprehensible, unconscionable, mindless insults when they visit my country. 

Well, now that I've exercised my right to Free Speech under the First Amendment of Constitution of the United States, where I was born, I'll bid you a good day and God Bless America!  God?  Is that word okay to use?  I think it is and it’s way past the time we started remembering it.
