Do you believe in ghosts? Below is an account of a true story from my own experience. Even though I may not have seen the ghost, but I heard the noise of the shuffling of paper and that is enough for me to believe ghosts do exist. Scroll down and read on...
I have just finished talking with a friend, Peter (not his real name) at work over the phone. He sounded excited and told me about his experience with spirits wandering around our work area.
I do believe that some people can see things that others can not. So, I am convinced that my friend Peter is one such person who can see the mystery of the unknown. Peter often comes into our office while we are working whenever he arrives to work early, and would tell us that he can see dead employees wandering in our workplace. There had been two separate incidences of employees committing suicide because of family problems while they were working here in this building. Peter said sometimes he would see them sitting at empty desks and sometimes they would be standing by a copying machine but would move away when someone came around to use the machine.
Peter is the security guard for our work building, so he is often left alone to guard the building after everyone has left for the day. Peter often tells us that he can see things, and can also hear strange noises that should otherwise not have been there. Sometimes when he walks by a certain area he would come upon a strong foul odor around that area.
Just now, he told me that several evenings ago when he was alone guarding our building. He went to the kitchen on the 10th floor to get a drink of water. He poured the water into the cup, and when he finished drinking he put the cup down on the kitchen counter. Then he saw the cup move by itself on the counter. Another evening he was drinking a can of pop. When he finished he put the empty can down on the kitchen counter, and he saw the can move by itself right across the counter. He didn't pay much attention to it at first, but as he was walking away from the counter and turned around to look back, he could see that the roll of paper towel on top of the counter was also moving as well! It is scary to have something like this happening in our workplace. Some employees also told me that sometimes they could hear strange noises. I believe that to be true , for I also personally experienced some noise on one occasion. It happened to me about two years ago:
On one of those winter evenings, I had to stay behind after work to update the stats in the system. I had to sum up how much each employee had spent on their credit cards so far, I needed to enter the amounts into the system for updates so I could run the statistical reports and print them out for the team meeting the following morning. I sat at my desk, in front of my computer and buried myself in my work. It was a very tedious job. There were many departments in this building and each department assigned a clerk, who had no accounting experience to key in their daily expense. Sometimes my daily balance wasn't balancing, so I had to look for who the pea brain entered some credits into debits or vice versa. To do that I had to go to each department to look at what the clerk had entered. It was like looking for a needle in a haystack. I could be sitting at my computer the whole evening trying to figure out what went wrong.
Around 6:30 p.m., all the lights in the whole office building were shut off. I sat in darkness, left with only the overhead light that was on top of my desk. Around 7:00 p.m. the room was becoming darker, and because it was a winter evening, the daylight had left quite early. The only lights left on in the office were from some of the employees' overhead lights that were accidentally left on by the employees.
It was dark and I was scared. I was sitting in the dark, and I wondered if that security guy, Peter, would come up to check on this floor then at least he would know where the light switches are to turn the lights back on. However, I had to do my work and print the statistical report for the team meeting the following morning.
I continued to work, only paying attention to what was in front of me - a stack of bills, and my computer. Then suddenly I heard some noise that seemed to have been caused by paper being shuffled around on Larry's (not his real name) desk, because of the baffle boards that were separating our working areas I could not see Larry's area directly and I only thought to myself, "Oh, great! Larry is still around! Now at least I'm not alone!!!" I secretly congratulated myself that I was not the only one left in the office. Larry was also there with me after all!
About 10 or 15 minutes later I finished the work and printed the statistical reports to my satisfaction for the following morning. I locked everything away and proceeded to walk out of the office. As I walked by Larry's area I wanted to say goodbye to him, but I was surprised to find that the area was TOTALLY EMPTY! No one was sitting there, and the desk was nice and neat, clean of any papers and documents like it had been that way from hours ago when he supposedly had left for the day! I didn't even think anything was wrong then. I got out of the office and made my way in the dark to the washroom before I decided to leave the building. I stepped into the restroom and it was in complete darkness. I had to run my hand along the side of the wall to look for the light switch to turn on the light. Just think about it! I was a courageous girl! There could have been a ghost lurking in the darkness of the restroom and I was not even afraid! I continued to look into the mirror, and I wondered if I would see a ghost behind me. I even stood there, washed my hands in the sink, and then pulled the paper towel to dry them. I figured if I would make more noise than the ghost, it would leave me alone, and just like that... it did! I got out of the washroom, took the elevator down (alone in the elevator) to the ground floor and got out of the building. I had not seen Peter that evening, I wondered which floor he was on.
Now, let us come back to the present: Just hearing Peter telling me about what had happened to the cup and the empty pop can makes me all excited. I almost wished I had been there to witness those two incidents! I'm beginning to think I'm a little bit crazy to be having that wish. Do you also have this kind of feeling?... Like... on the one hand you know you are scared, but on the other hand, you are dying to explore the unknown.
I'm neither a ghost hunter nor am I claiming to be brave, but for some reason, whenever Peter tells me about his ghostly encounters, I always get all excited and wish I were there with him too to witness the unknown. I know, if I ever met a ghost face to face, I probably would really be scared, and yet I cannot help the feeling of wanting to meet one. Am I being so silly?
Not crazy at all, Sandie. There are many things in this world that science cannot explain. Thank you for sharing your most interesting experience. Love and best wishes to you,
FROM THE BEGINNING, IN THE GARDEN, THERE HAS BEEN THE SPIRIT OF GOD AND THE SPIRT NOT OF GOD. I THINK IT IS NATURAL FOR ONE TO BE INTRIGUED BY THOSE THINGS THAT HAPPEN, WHICH THEY FEEL THEY HAVE NO EXPLANATION FOR. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT AMAZES ME? THE HOLY 'GHOST', THE SPIRT OF GOD, SHOWS HIMSELF IN SO MANY TANGIBLE WAYS(MIRACLES) AND YET...PEOPLE SEEM TO FIND IT SO HARD TO 'BELIEVE' THAT HE DOES EXIST...THEY TURN AWAY. I AM SO GLAD TO ATTEST TO THE FACT THAT ALL OF MY 'GHOSTLY ENCOUNTERS' HAVE BEEN BEAUTIFUL ONES. THANKS FOR SHARING AND GOD BLESS, LOVE, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I AM SOOOOO SCARED NOW!! THANKS SANDIE, NOW I NEED THAROPY TO COPE, AGAIN. This is very good writing; I do feel the fear and the chills building, as I read this. WoW!
Sandie, I truly enjoyed reading this story, and believe that there are "ghosts" or "spirits" who continue to walk among us...even if only in shadows. Your story was well written, and I felt your heart beating as if I were in that office in the dark of night. We don't have to be crazy to believe in paranormal activity, as everyday more and more truths are coming to light that in the past were considered to be "in our minds or ridiculous!" Good work, and keep writing, because you definitely have a lot to share. hugs, lindalaw
No, Sandie, You're not crazy. I lived in a 100 yr old haunted house for six years, with six kids, five in their teens. They were all a bit psychic and constantly saw ghosts, heard them and very strange things happened there. I figure it was poltergeist activity from hormonal teens, until the night I heard the house breathe. Many of our encounters are in my memoir, . . .And The Whippoorwill Sang, a funny, poignant, sad story of the loss of one of my teens to a dwi vehicular accendent, a block away from the haunted house. So I'm a believer!!
Sandie, as you suggested I read and enjoyed this story. I do believe and understand what you are saying, my sister, her husband and litte one lived in a house supposedly built on an Indian burial ground. This may sound like an old wife's tale but I spent many nights there babysitting and I could tell you more than a few things that happened while I was there. However I do not fear ghosts for someone very wise said it is not the dead we should fear but the living.
I really enjoyed this story. We believe in ghosts. My mother is still at our home sometimes, especially if some one is ill. She died in 2002.. We used to hear noises in the kitchen and some times seea shadow , or here some one speaking our name. ...M

This is very entertaining. I myself am a bit into paranormal stuff. I think that ghosts do exist and I can almost feel your heartbeat racing while sitting alone with nothing but a few overhead lights to keep you company on that cold chilly winter evening while your memory goes back to the stories told by Peter...makes me want to say Boo!...very very nicely written.
Hugs to you
John E.
Sandie your narrative was entertaining and well written, an easy flowing read in fact. Yes, I remember when you wrote us about the strange goings on at the workplace and some of the stories the guy told you.
Must admit I like those ghost hunter quests on television the type of enactments as to whether they are true or not, makes us even more inquisitive.
Smile and blessings take care as always,

I usually don't read long stories, but your title captivated me and once I started reading I couldn't stop. I think most of us grew up on ghost stories and there is so much intrigue and suspense in reading them. I really enjoyed your story.
