Dear Journal~
Mattaq Eegeesiak writing. Sorry if I haven't written in a little while; it's just that things have been incredibly busy. Between trying to take care of personal affairs, running to/from the nursing home to see Sikik, and working, I don't have much iin the way of free time. I hope you understand.
Sikik is coping with her new residence as best as she can; however, she knows it's not her home back in Barrow, and she's miserable. It hurts me to see her being so sad; there's really nothing I can do about it except pray for the Great Spirit to give us favor and hope that soon, one day, Sikik will return home to Barrow.
I am still here in Anchorage, staying with friends that live near the nursing home where Sikik's staying. They take me to see her, which I greatly appreciate. To try to help them, I help out with chores, and I work four days a week at a salmon plant, 12 hours each time. I pay my own bills; I don't want them to take care of me, too, on top of their own bills/needs.
The weather here is getting colder: daytime highs in the fifties, lows in the thirties/forties. Already we've had some spits of snow; I wonder what kind of winter weather we are going to have here in Alaska. They're calling for snowier/colder weather than normal here. We shall see what we shall see.
Some nights have been clear; have seen some amazing auroreal light displays already. Seems the sun is becoming more active, according to www.spaceweather.com. It comes in cycles: 11 years the sun's active, then there's a lull, before it starts up again.
Last night there was a briliant red harvest moon. It was the Hunter's Moon, also called the Blood Moon. It was rather chilling in appearance; never have I seen the moon that red! I've seen auroras turn blood red, but never the moon! I just hope it doesn't mean that bad things are going to happen to our family!!
I will have to do some heavy duty praying to the Great Spirit above to keep us safe from harm/danger!!
I finally wrote to Louisiana Sandusky in the Lower 48, to let her know how my sister is doing. I know Sikik (as well as myself) appreciate the prayers, even though we don't believe in the same fashion. Her God's different than mine; that's okay. It still goes to the same person, and that same person hears our prayers, concerns of our heart!
I don't know why she keeps trying to convert me to follow her religion when I am perfectly content with mine! It's how I was raised, I am not going to change, just to please her and other Dog Children, who have no business meddling in how we believe!! That's crazy!!
Well, I am going to go now. It's still early in the morning (not even eight o'clock here; it's 7:33 a.m. to be exact), and I have to put on some coffee in order to wake up, face the new day. Until later, this is Mattaq saying so long; I will write in here again in a few days to let you know how my sister is doing. If anything changes, I will let you know sooner than that; either way, you'll be informed.
May the Great Spirit bless you!
