A boy with allergies writes about himself as part of a school assignment.

My name's Finnegan O'Flaherty, but most kids call me Flea, on 'count I seem to have a perpetual itch all the time.  Call it dry skin, allergies, whatever you choose; but it seems I'm always scratching myself.

No amount of skin creams or lotions are going to help.  Believe me, I've tried just about everything under the sun.  It's annoying, but I've gotten used to it.

I have two sisters Fiona (eleven) and Ferndetta (twelve), no brothers.  I'm nine.  I'm the youngest of my family.

Ma and Da, they are always getting on my case because my older sisters pick fights with me.  They find any little reason to pick on me, be it my skin problems, my red hair, my kajillion freckles, or the fact that I'm short and skinny for my age.  It's getting to be way past annoying!

It seems that I'm always fighting with my sisters; Ma and Da, they're always yelling at them to leave me alone.  I'd fight back, but you're not supposed to fight girls; I learned that long ago.  I just sit there, let them dish it out, then I tattle on them; nothing pleases me more than to see them getting their just desserts for the violence/pain they've inflicted on me.

When I'm not at school, I like to draw, read, watch telly.  I like to play computer games, write to my pals online.  I don't do much in the way of sports; sports make me itch worse; if there's one thing I absolutely hate, it's sweating.  Summers are the worst, especially since I live in Louisiana, which is one of the worst places for heat that you can live.

Add humiditiy to the picture, and you can very well imagine what my life is like.  It's pure hell!!

I don't like being called Flea, but that's what my stupid older sisters (not to mention, a lot of the kids at school)  have christened me.  I guess they think I'm contagious or something when they see me scratching, digging at me skin.  Well, I itch; what am I supposed to do?? Stand back and take it??

I don't think so!!

Well, class is fixin' to end, so I will go for now.  I will write in here again another day.  Until later, this is Flea O'Flaherty signing off!  Ciao!

~Flea. :)

feel sorry for Flea Karen, skin problems can be a pain, sometimes diet has a lot to do with it, the skin is the largest elimination organ, injsted toxins have a tendency to leave through the skin, hugs

Having allergies isn't fun at all and it is a shame for others to think it is okay to mock you and nick name you for they don't realize how you suffer from it. Hopefully he will outgrow this sooner then later. Thank you for sharing Karen.

Newfie Hugs are on the way, Rose

Poor little guy! Skin irritation is an abhomination and the most difficult and maddening thing to have to suffer. It's like torture, yet people don't understand the problem or the pain. Added to the physical discomfort is the teasing by kith, kin and kids at school. What a brave little chap he is and I pray he "grows out of" his allergy and has understanding, compassion and resiliance of character as a result. But boy oh boy... all that red hair and freckles... he's gonna be a heartbreaker, too! :)) xx

Poor Flea! To have bright red hair is enough, but a kajillion freckles and two older sisters? Poor kid: no wonder he breaks out in hives and scratches! LOL Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Karen, you are truly amazing. All your characters seem so real. Your writing style lets you visualize each and every one. What a great imagination and how I envy you. Flea and his itching problem are not that far from reality. Right on dear lady...
