DeShawn is worried that he or a member of his family might be gunned down by random gunfire, which has become a regular occurance in his neighborhood.

DeShawn Perkins here.

I wish I could say things have gotten better; however, they really haven't.  If anything, they remain about the same.

I have awakened to the sound of gunfire or the sound of feet running off into the distance (and also much shouting); it seems to be a nightly occurance around these parts.

Such as life when you live in the projects, as I do.

Each sound of gunfire causes fear to pick at my spine, causes my belly to constrict.  I wonder if anyone I know has been hit by bullets or worse, if any of those bullets will come flying into the house, possibly hitting me or any of my sleeping family members.

Just last week, a baby boy, only two months old, ws killed by a stray bullet.  The baby lived just up the road from me, about a mile or so; he was sleeping in his crib, when some thug shot a bullet, and it flew into his room, hitting him.  He was instantly killed.

It makes me sick to know that people no longer care.

You'd think since it was nearly Easter, people would "get the message" of Christ rising from the grave and put down their stupid guns or knives, but noooo--they still have to shoot and act totally irrational.

I don't think we'll get to church today, even with it being Easter Sunday.  If anything, we'll probably end up having church here, at our apartment:  me, granny, and my two younger sisters, which is what we usually end up doing.

Well, I am going to go; please say a prayer for us, to where we can leave this area; I'm getting shellshocked from all the random violence that's been hittin' these parts!  I'd appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!  And by the way, Happy Easter!

~Sincerely, DeShawn Perkins.  :(

It is with sadness that we read about our biggest cities having an outlaw state of things.
When the Italian Mob were in charge, no one of those armed punks would have dared to say peep. The authorities got rid of the Mob but didn't nothing to fill the vacuum. And another kind of mob appeared. The one with thousand heads and in thousand towns.
Thanks to the NRA guns have flooded everywhere, out-gunning the police to the extreme of police being afraid to enter some parts of towns.
Ask the general population what they think about!

Where are the police? It seems like he was writing from a war zone!
Such a place is dangerous for everyone not just for kids. Gripping story, Karen.
