Just a story inspired by a short film that was inspired by a short story
I am man, created in Gods own image, strength and power. But I, I can see where as my God is now blinded. When the sun died so many years ago, the great blast burned my Lords’ eyes and put an end to life on earth. I am here on this dark barren planet to rid this world of Satan. So many others in my Gods image have failed, but now it is my turn to rise above Satan’s power and rid this world of the thorns. I look up as the moon makes it s way belong the sun giving way to the short day of complete darkness. The stars give little illumination so I ignite the staff of Moses that my lord gave me. The staff bends to me will, mans will. I approach the cathedral and look up at its entrance. The first of us mounted there defeated by the devils thorns. He is mangled and torn; he was unable to keep the heavenly fathers strength within him, the strength that can save this world. I look down bowing my head, ashamed of Lucifer’s sick sense of irony. I raise the staff, the doors open before me. I enter and the song of the angels rings in my ears. I feel the faces of all the others shift and smile, some wishing to thank me for their salvation and some unsure if they should even hope. Through all this I am sad, so aware of the failures before me, why am I so proud as to think I can save them? Save this earth from Satan? I exit the unfinished cathedral and stand on the cliff looking out on the empty land. I stand back my torch growing back into its original form. I kneel stroking the earth; the thorns of Satan reach up to take me, and then crumble. I stand leaning against the staff of Moses, praying, begging my god for the strength I’ve lost to cast Satan from this dying earth and the guidance I need. The air chills freezing the ground and the base of the cathedral. I look up as the icy moon shows from behind the extinguished sun. The thorns rise from the earth taking hold of the staff and my arm. I loosen my muscles trying to pull away. The staff shatters like fine ice taking my arm along with it. I fall to my knees, the stub of my arm dangling. I am defeated. I look down on my remaining hand, blood running from beneath it, feeling the devil take hold of my body. I feel the pain roar in my chest as the thorns burrow out from my lowly human flesh. I feel it rumble and burst through my chest. I give way to Lucifer, letting his power overwhelm me. My body is over taken by his thorns. I am defeated.
