Dear Journal~

Hello from the Rockies!  :)

This is your Colorado friend, Derbi Ann Wilson, writing.  Thought I'd continue with my story, so you'd know more about me.  Here goes nothing --

School is creeping up fast.  In only a few short weeks, it will be starting up for another year.  I will be entering my first year of high school:  I'll be a ninth grader.  I'm a little intimidated at the thought of being on the bottom of the totem pole when, in eighth grade, we were top dog!

I am sure with God's help I will make it, but I can't help but be a little nervous!  :/

Today is stormy-rainy out.  No severe weather, just yuck.  I'm doing this on my laptop; I have it on battery mode.  That way, if the power goes, my computer still works, neener, neener, neener!  :P  LOL  It's a really nasty, grey day out; hopefully it will clear out by tonight!  I hope so!  I don't care for the rain; I would much prefer sunshine; that way, I can be out in it!  :)

Mom is busy wrangling with Emma-Tess, my two-year-old baby sister, and Ethan, who is my four-year-old brother.   Ethan, who has special needs, is being especially bad today.  He just doesn't want to listen!  I think if she is having difficulty, she should enlist my help; after all, I know how to make children stop crying or misbehaving!  I'm a whiz with little kids, especially babies and toddlers!

Ethan has cerebral palsy and was born with a cleft lip and palate.  He had surgery at six months of age to fix his palate and lip; he  looks normal, except for a little zigzag scar above his upper lip and below his nose.  He looks beautiful!

He is undergoing speech therapy to help his talking skills; he does have some delays; at the age of two he can say maybe three or four words, and they are hard to understand on a good day.

Meanwhile, Emma-Tess (or Tess as I call her) is being fairly good; she is just bored, so she wants mom to pay less attention to her brother and more attention to her.  LOL  Typical sibling-rivalry!  LOL

I tried to call Sage McDermott, to see if she wanted to come over; not home.  No answer.  I will try later; figure she, her uncle Fenton, and Aunt Reba went to the store or somewhere else for the day.  Maybe they went to catch a movie.  Who knows?  I will try again in a few hours; hopefully by then she will be back from wherever she went to!

Dad is in his workshop, working on the band saw.  Stupid thing broke last week, and daddy has some wordworking projects he'd like to try to complete.  I hope he is careful; I don't like it when he tinkers with his saw.  I am always afraid he's going to cut his arm or hand off!  And I don't know why he's working on it when it's thundering/lightning out!  I tell you, sometimes I think my daddy has spiders for brains!

Well, since I can't do my outdoor activities (rock climbing, snow skiing [in summer??  I don't even think so!!], riding my bike, or swimming), guess I will write in my journal, which is what I am doing now.  Forgive me if it sounds all silly and disjointed; my mind's cloudy today; it matches the weather perfectly!  LOL

On Friday we will deliver some blankets we made for the seniors to the nursing home.  We see the seniors every week, take them food and some little gifts to brighten their day.  They always enjoy it, and we get such a kick seeing the joy on their faces!  It's precious!

On Saturday, mom and dad promised me they'd take me to the Half-Price Bookstore (I call it the Half-OFF Bookstore); maybe I will find a new Christian novel there.  I've read just about all I have now!  I hope so; I love lounging about in the bookstore for a few hours!

Well, it looks like mom is going to need my help; it seems that Tess and Ethan have gotten way out of control.  They are yelling to beat the band; their screams are beginning to grate on my ears.  So before any sanity that's left flies out the window, I'd best relieve mom before they overpower her!  LOL  I will write in here again; until later, this is Derbi Ann Wilson saying I'm outta here!  God bless and so long!

~Love, your friend, Derbi Ann.  :)

Blimey, Karla's got good eyesight!!! That lightening must be doing wonders for her retinal magnification! :)) I loved this homely write, Karen. Even though there is disruption within the family, I love the insight into the daily activities Derbi Ann enjoys and the details of her set-up... I shivered along with her at the thoughts of her dad out there with the saw in the storm. You are so good at putting us inside your characters' heads. This is a very warm and loving scenario, rich with contentment even alongside the rain clouds! Enjoyed! Thank you, Kate xx

Hmmm. If Derbi is in Denver, why does it say "Burleson Pizza Company" on the sign?!? LOL Still, captures rainy days and foggy minds perfectly, as does this stormy, loud screaming type of thunder write! Oh. The thunder isn't screaming, Emma-Tess and Ethan are raising the roof. My bad. LOL Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
