There has been an unexpected turn of events for Jaylene Jones.

I am so relieved!
Here I was, thinking that I was going to be going to jail for what my boyfriend did to my son.
Yes, I was charged ("child endangerment"), but there were extenuating circumstances, according to my lawyer, that reduced my sentence to three years' probation.
No jail time for me!!
TaShawn, meanwhile, will be behind bars for 10-20 years with no chance of parole.
I am still shaking as I write this. I am so relieved that my sentence wasn't nearly as bad as I first thought it would be.
I have to report to a parole officer. My first appointment is today at 10:00 this morning. I will find out the details of my probation further once I get there.
More than likely, I will have to work at a home for children with severe special needs. That's okay.
I will have to have supervised visits with my son, as part of the sentence. And that's okay, too. They will see that I love my son and did the best I could for him, even though I was blinded by TaShawn's lies and smooth talk.
I will have to take monthly parenting classes as well. That's fine, too.
Maybe what I will learn will benefit both Roderick and myself. Maybe in the end I'll gain enough experience to get my child back home, where he should be.
Hopefully she will understand the consequences of her deeds and take some responsibility. She has no clue (nor the skills) required to bring her crushed child home.
Karen this is an excellent update I join Regis in saying
well done, and it is so wonderful for Jaylene to get a second
chance! Thank you for sharing this! I really appreciate reading
it!
Send the butt of that uncaring monster into prison's general population telling them that the big macho man liked to drop toddlers on their heads. There a few fathers around.
An excellent update, Karen, very well penned. Jaylene is like a lot of us: we imagine the worst, When the worst doesn't come to pass, there is so much relief and excitement (and yes, gratefulness). =]
I am glad she didn't have to go to jail. I love the idea of her having to work with special needs children. Boy- you can have a lot of stories when she does that. Great job again Karen!
Karen, you have written this so well....and it's an excellent series although difficult to write and read, as it's so painful....a painful truth that happens all too often. TaShawn is where he should be and I think Jaylene has learned much.
Karen, you cover some honest-to-goodness situations that occur everyday in our society and give us a look into the worlds of those who experience things we have not experienced. You do a terrific job and your writing style is both interesting and makes for easy reading.
